Just gotta make sure my internet on the ship is good enough first, lol... right now, it's extremely slow (to the point that I almost couldn't even get this list posted) Also, currently watching Dandadan, and it's fucking hilarious. It's exactly what I needed after something as dark and heavy as Violet Evergarden
Dedes 04.06.26	WE HAVE NOW COME FOR YOUR BANANAS recently finished Mob Psycho which absolutely rules, same creator of One Punch Man. A touch lighthearted but there is definitely a heavy theme of discovering individuality and understanding how to accept the negative aspects of yourself as part of one unit. Also mega weird art style. Also finished Egghead Island which rules but has the worst pacing of all One Piece.
Christbait 04.06.26	Samurai Gourmet: limited series from the creator of "Solitary Gourmet". Basically a simple and comforting series about a retired Japanese salaryman who adjusts to the freedoms of retirement through food. If you ever watched Solitary Gourmet, you'll get it. He has a fictional ronin in his imagination that helps him evoke courage in everyday encounters. A really cute and digestible show about the love of food. One Piece: Finished season 1 last week. Probably a solid 8/10. Have never watched the anime or read the manga, but the show has been a very enjoyable watch with some great camerawork and fun action. Just started season 2 so don't have too much to say about it at the moment.

To be perfectly honest, Violet Evergarden hasn't clicked with me yet which is weird because I usually love stories like it. After that I've got a ton of options but haven't fully decided yet. Might restart Steins Gate cause I got side tracked from that.

IsisScript80 04.06.26	"Steel Ball Run" This would be THE series I'd be all over, if not for the sheer clusterfuck that is the release schedule. As it stands, the ONE episode of that, the first seties of 'Pokemon' with my son, and a rewatch of 'The Sopranos' is the entirety of my TV-watching experience right now.

My coworker is mostly an anime guy, so those are most of the shows he's been giving me. I'm cool with it though... I took a pretty long break from anime, so it's nice to finally dive back in again. Yeah, I'm so glad I checked that one out... definitely one of the best things I've watched during the deployment. And apparently the final movie is coming out this year! But I got pretty tired of Shonen/Shonen-type series after a while, so the rom-coms and dramas have been a nice change of pace

Voivod 05.02.26	The Americans (2013-2018) - Finally saw it all. Hands down, at the top 5 of the top 10 series of all time, it rivals everything therein.

Thibs 05.02.26	Deadwood - amazing, can't believe I waited this long Shrinking - with my wife, it's fine Crashing - solid stand-up themed show Shoresy - hockey culture over the top. have to be in the mood but it can be pretty funny Dexter Resurrection - I like it Hacks - decent comedy DTF St Louis - dark funny with enough plotline twists. worth watching

I tried, several times, but have really striluggled to get on-board with it; I know that good things are happening, and there's a depth there, but I got near the end of Season 1 and still didn't get me. IDK, it just feels kinda ttrope-y, and some of the acting is really wooden and unconvincing. I feel I'm wading indefinitely to get to the "Game of Thrones in space" that's always being promised. My experience of it is way off that (I'm referring of course, to when GoT was a good show).

I also find it to be pretty plodding and Thomas Jane feels so out of place with respect to the context of the show. A gumshoe detective with a fedora (or trilby who the fuck knows) acting like Columbo in the far future just has a level of cheese I struggle to tolerate.

Faraudo 05.04.26	Rewatching The Americans, one of the best-written (and performed) shows of all time. It genuinely rivals any other prestige show you can think of, and even surpasses most
Azazzel 05.14.26	halfway through this Spring anime season and Agents of the Season (Violet Evergarden) and Daemons (Full Metal Alchemist) have been a bit disappointing given their pedigree BUT- Nippon Sangoku, what a delightful surprise. Near future Japan post-state collapse but not apocalyptic returns to a warring states period with a scholarly protag that uses wits and grand strategy to pursue reunification but he's more Kong Ming than shounen brat. like enacting agriculture reform to improve military readiness. paired with gorgeous unique art direction has it #1 for me. Widow's Bay on Apple has been a cozy horror comedy too if you want a coastal new england Stephen King fix. seem to be taking inspiration from different classics for each ep but not in a lazily forced way (The Fog, Jaws, It).
anarchistfish 05.14.26	Yeah I got like 2 and a half books into The Expanse (and a few episodes into S1) and never quite got the hype. The characters are annoying, it has this YA kinda vibe to it and I can't help thinking of video games that did it before and somehow better. might revisit at some point but it feels like forcing it might tackle the new From season at some point but s3 was seriously testing my patience and what I'm hearing from people isn't raising my optimism
AlkemestRedux 05.14.26	Yes! Widow's Bay is awesome. We're watching through that one right now too. Other than that it's From and Euphoria for new shows. Just finished the second season of Paradise, which is a cool post-apocalyptic show, and of course The Pitt.

Wildcardbitchesss 05.31.26	Watching Game of Thrones for the first time since it ended, and goddamn… I really forgot how good this show used to be. The final season really put a stain on the whole series, like even people who I’ve recommended it to that haven’t seen it bring that up. VAGUE GOT SPOILERS: My take on it: the ending itself isn’t terrible in concept. I’m fine with the white walkers not being the “final threat”, a lot of people were pressed that they got dealt with first, the show is literally called “Game of Thrones”, the game and the people playing it have always been far more interesting to me than the looming threat of the Night King. That’s just one storyline of dozens. I’m fine with Cersei not really being the final boss and with Dany’s whole “mad queen” arc. I really don’t even hate who ultimately ends up on the Iron Throne. All of that is perfectly fine * in concept* What I hate is that it is as all so goddamned rushed. Season 8 had enough storyline to literally be BARE FUCKING MINIMUM 2 FULL SEASONS OF SHIT. And Season 8 itself is already short! If S8 was executed with the same care and attention to detail that the earlier seasons had, then the first three episodes would’ve been a full 10 episode season and the last three episodes would’ve been a full 10 episode season. I mean for fucks sake, the series finale alone is literally like AT LEAST 5 full episodes worth of story crammed into 80 fucking minutes. Like, it wouldn’t feel like such a kick in the balls if it were a full 10 episode season and it just kind of stumbled at the one yard line, but a 6 episode season, especially when HBO LITERALLY PUSHED FOR A 10 EPISODE SEASON, I dunno man, it’s just fucking obscene END GOT SPOILERS ___________________________________. I don’t think a show has ever had quite the fall from grace that GOT did. There was a point that you could seriously argue it as being the greatest show of all time, or certainly the best show at the time of airing. Going from that to just complete indifference from a huge chunk of the fanbase is unprecedented. There have been shows that get incredibly shitty in their later seasons, but that’s not quite the case with GOT. It wasn’t shitty. It was just baffling. And we went from being baffled to being utterly indifferent. I can’t think of another series in that boat. Truly a one of a kind situation.
Koris 06.01.26	^ Not only did HBO push for a 10-episode season, they also pushed for more seasons in general. And on top of that, George R.R. Martin said there was enough material for at least 5 more seasons. But from what I understand, the creators rushed the rest of it out because they wanted to move onto a Star Wars trilogy they were scheduled to start working on... and what's funny is that they didn't even GET the Star Wars trilogy! The reception of S8 (arguably S7 too) was so bad that they got booted off the project. Honestly, the people I feel bad for the most are the OG fans of A Song of Ice and Fire... like the ones who started reading the series back in the mid-90s. Because of GRRM not finishing Winds of Winter (and I'm pretty sure he never will) and the showrunners rushing out GoT's ending, there's now a book series that remains unfinished and a show that ends terribly. That fucking stings, lol
Koris 06.01.26	Also, just finished My Romantic Comedy SNAFU (also known as My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, as I Expected). Really nice blend of comedy and drama, and the main character reminded me a lot of Daria in the sense that he starts out extremely cynical but (very) slowly warms up to the people around him
budgie 06.01.26	the expanse: a washed up alcoholic cop in his fifties sees a picture of a 20yo girl and decides they are soulmates and he wont stop until they are united. he then finds her corpse and cuddles with it
gabba 06.01.26	Dune: Prophecy - first 2 episodes were excellent, ep 3-4 just okay, I wonder how the last 2 will be.

IsisScript80 08.16.26	I don't live like a complete weeb, but my current viewing habits seem to suggest otherwise, lol... Watching: 'Moomin' (1990s) - Wth my son. Gorgeous anime adaptation... all episodes available on YouTube. 8/10, so far... (would expect to remain so). Just finished 'TEXHNOLYZE' (2003). Beautiful, astonishingly bleak and uncompromising. Pacing was hit-and-miss... mostly preferred the almost dialogue-free, surrealist-style openers than what it later became. Especially strong last few episodes and ending, though. 7/10 Started 'Kingdom' (2019 - ). Other than the crappy CG (which I'm to believe gets immeasurably better in later seasons), a very captivating tale. A few teething issues, no doubt, but they very much seem to be just that... I'm thoroughly invested. (Early) 7.5/10
Voivod 08.16.26	Party Down (2009-2023) - Hilarious, excellent stuff. Even the last season 10 years after the second one, was great.
Koris 08.16.26	Damn, I still need to update this at some point. I watched quite a few things since my last entry About to finish Sword Art Online in a few days, and I really enjoyed it overall. A lot of people told me the show goes downhill after S1, but I don't necessarily agree. I liked how the whole Death Gun arc played out like a murder mystery, and the giant Underworld war in S3 has been really engaging so far. Ngl though, part of me kinda wishes Kirito would get with Alice instead of Asuna...

Wildcardbitchesss 08.16.26	I’m thinking about watching ALL of True Detective. I’ve only ever seen the first season, but with how incredible that was I feel like the criticisms of everything that came after are probably overblown. Like I can’t imagine any of them being truly terrible, just like, not able to reach the heights of that first season. Which is damn near impossible because it’s one of the greatest single seasons in the history of television.
IsisScript80 08.16.26	^ I tried a couple of episodes of the following season and just didn't really like it... yeah, following on from Season 1 is a hard ask, but it just didn't seem to have ANY of the appeal of the first--the x factor thing that was SO prevalent, even in the very first episode. Consequently, it'd be just living off its name/branding, and as each season is self-contained, and complete unto themselves, watching something JUST BECAUSE of its branding, but having none (or at least very little) of what made it special to begin with feels a bit of a waste of time, IMO.

Gfunk839 08.17.26	I just finished HOTD season 3. It is a fantastic show, the main issues being with how the tale is chopped up into seasons. No season so far has had a satisfying arc structure to it, so they all end very unsatisfyingly and haphazardly. Made worse by the 2 year wait between. That said, I'm certain that once the entire show is out and can be watched at the viewers leisure without the weird and annoying gaps in seasons, it will be a phenomenal experience. The production on the show (CGI, sets, costumes, acting, setpieces) rivals anything big or small screen. It's really well made. ONly issue aside is some questionable writing at times.
IsisScript80 08.17.26	"In all seriousness, is HotD any good?" Season 1 was VERY good... led me to think it was a true return to form. That, for me, completely vanished upon watching Season 2, which IMO, was as awful as anything the latter part of GoT was ever accused of being. I dropped it. Fed up of watching franchise entertainment. Just things watched mindlessly, living off past glories, whilst forgetting everything that made them good to begin with (actually echoing my post on 'True Detective' above). This show hasn't got multiple seasons in it. It became clear that there's nothing to justify it being the case, beyond being a branded cash cow.
rockandmetaljunkie 08.17.26	@Koris It is good imo, but it's very slow, laden with dialogue, has limited action, and as some guys have already told you, it has some pacing issues. But the production values are sky high. It's nowhere near as good as early GoT seasons though. And it's a soap opera. There's no other way to accurately describe it. A very expensive soap opera. If you're into this kind of thing go check it out.
el_newg 08.17.26	been watching Hannibal, its decent. Mads is the man. I think its a little up its own arse sometimes, especially the dialogue. but honestly I'm impressed that they are able to tell compelling stories that blends self-contained procedural/monster of the week stuff with the overarching story and keep it thematically relevant (mostly S1 & 2) except its too damn dark. literally. can't see a thing!

el_newg 08.19.26	I’m near the end, only a few episodes left. I’ve not read the source material, but it’s been cool looking into how they’ve been adapted. I’d be interested to see how they do Silence of the Lambs if a season 4 came about, it’d be hard to top the film though!
