The Djinn existed in many religions before Islam. In Greek they were known as Daimon or Daemon. In Ancient Assyria we see beliefs of a figure commonly called the Winged Genie. Ancient Arabic cultures worshipped them as well but we don't know the exact origin of the Djinn.
