unclereich
03.22.26 | It was on the front page for at least a month |
Cygnatti
03.22.26 | I feel like that was more about controversy, rather than everyone like it it a lot. |
unclereich
03.22.26 | I’ve got a better one then: Justin Timberlake- the 20/20 experience. It was on the front page that entire year |
unclereich
03.22.26 | Also not sure if sputcore means everyone has to like it considering defeater and btbam are on this list. most people who are still active hate those bands |
ShadowRemains
03.22.26 | jane doe is by far the most sputcore album, it might be loved/liked elsewhere, but it is literally coded into the metaverse of this site |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | I feel that way reich, to me personally i think its more what bands will generate discussion |

03.22.26 | Great list regardless! |

ShadowRemains
03.22.26 | lol how did mezzanine not get mentioned yet, that album literally spawned an entire sub-group/community within this community |
Get Low
03.22.26 | Isn't State Faults usually one that gets mentioned in these lists? |
Emim
03.22.26 | Training for Utopia - Plastic Soul Impalement
Beloved too, honestly. Both thanks to Scoot |
efp123

Kayo Dot
Gospel
Thrice is a big one I dont see yet either |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | Got Thrice at 8 and Deafheaven at 14. Kayo Dot/maudlin of the well is a massive shout I overlooked |

03.22.26 | Updated list!!! I'm gonna have to make an effort to check/revisit everything I'm not as familiar with |
ConcubinaryCode
03.22.26 | Oop my bad I was kinda breezing through and didnt see the pink album. I was also looking for vhessiu over artist. |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | I almost went w Vheissu but I figured any Thrice pick would work |
cloakanddagger
03.22.26 | I've been on sput for 13 years and there's still a bunch of stuff on this list I've never listened to. Need to step my game up clearly |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | I'm right there with you buddy, I just thought it was a perfect time for some historical reflection |
cloakanddagger
03.22.26 | Hanl definitely belongs here though, that's quintessential sputcore. I think the wiki page even explicitly says sputnik is where that album first got popular |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | That's one I definitely want to try. Shoegaze has always been a blind spot in my personal tastes |
cylinder
03.22.26 | Ah, this takes me back |
Jebull
03.22.26 | I might have to make this a playlist :D |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | What Sput classics do yall think I or others are missing? |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | Trophy Scars |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | Vi som älskade varandra så mycket
yeah, maybe not ‘big’ enough but kinda like State Faults BEFORE their latest blew up. i.e. more popular here relatively |
Jebull
03.22.26 | Hmm. Enslaved? |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | Massive Attack & Boards of Canada just seem weird to me
probably Deftones too |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | just cos those bands are massively popular elsewhere and I don’t think Sput’s love of them is in any way disproportionate
then again, this may be about how we ‘define’ it |
Deathconscious
03.22.26 | This list is pretty on point. |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | Stimming is Sputcore
Aphex, Autechre, Boards, FlyLo etc. are not imo |
cloakanddagger
03.22.26 | "That's one I definitely want to try" Definitely recommend it bud!
As for what I'd add to this list I'd say In Shallow Seas We Sail by Emery, Fake History by Letlive and New Surrender by Anberlin should all be on here. |
RVAHC13
03.22.26 | Unknown Pleasures
Brother, Sister
The Argument
Neon Bible
Hospice
Shape of Punk To Come
I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning
Carrie and Lowell |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | @Demon I find those artists all are part of the face of Sput discussion around electronic music. Much more than Stimming but maybe thats my personal biases coming into play. I also definitely push more “functional” dance music compared to most of the user base too |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | Sorry, I think my point was that naming the most popular music in a certain genre / field / whatever across the internet isn’t ‘Sputcore’ to me. Some of these artists were all over the internet and even made their way into wider consciousness
My definition is different. It’s what is / was unique to Sput. All those artists certainly qualify under ‘most discussed’ tho, for sure. |
Emim
03.22.26 | I think there's a bit of both in sputcore. Definitely some bands/albums that are disproportionately represented on here, but also some that are just essential to the community's DNA, regardless of their reception at large. I mean Converge, Opeth, Thrice, etc are all very well respected outside of this site. |
Emim
03.22.26 | Burial - Untrue
Can't believe I didn't mention Emery. That album was huge here for a bit mainly due to shitposting and Daveyboy's relentless appreciation for it. |
Demon of the Fall
03.22.26 | I will concede where bands like Converge and Neurosis (to use current examples) are concerned, because even though their popularity extends beyond Sput (and always has, by experience) I cannot deny it’s disproportionate lol |
IsisScript80
03.22.26 | 'White Pony' by Deftones isn't Sputcore. The ongoing narrative that SNW is THE Deftones #1 album--an opinion I've seen expressed repeatedly on these boards throughout the years, and nowhere else--IS Sputcore to a tee.
Seen similar Sput-centric campaigns for AWLWLB opposed to 'Jane Doe' for Converge.

Dedes
03.22.26 | Gospel-The Moon is a Dead World |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | For the purposes of this list, I mostly chose my favorites or the undisputed Sput classics. I’m also w Mimsy saying that outside reputation can still contribute to their “sputcoreisms”. As with anything, the definition is constantly evolving |
Veldin
03.22.26 | Definitely a Trophy Scars album needs to be on there. My friend who knew the band showed them to me in 2006 and by the time Darkness and Never Born came out, they were HUGE on Sputnik which I’ve always thought was really cool bc they’re unfortunately so underground and will probably remain there |
jrlikestodance
03.22.26 | I don't think I've ever listened to em |
Emim
03.22.26 | Darkness, Oh Hell is the one I remember. Pretty good |
RVAHC13
03.22.26 | @Dedes that’s a good one. I haven’t thought about that album in years, and to think this site motivated me to buy it on CD at one point |
ShadowRemains
03.22.26 | eisley - room noises for *that* review |
