Top 20 Live Performancs I've Seen This Year
Among 100+ Live Performances these were my favorites. |
| 20 | | Orbitron Casssini
Muenster, 24.1 @ Rare Guitar
Sweet little local space rock band with great synths & synergy. Excited about what's to come |
| 19 | | Asian Dub Foundation RAFI's Revenge
Dortmund 19.2 @ Junkyard
A driven-by-nostalgia-type of experience, but damn they still have a lot of energy left. |
| 18 | | Eremit Rise of the Ruan~angh
Muenster 24.1 @ Rare Guitar
Upcoming sludge metal band that crushes eardrums. |
| 17 | | Kal-El Astral Voyager Vol.1
Tabernas Rock Festival
Tight, tight, tight |
| 16 | | Motorpsycho Motorpsycho
Bielefeld 5.5 @ Forum
They played pretty much the whole new album, masterfully executed as expected, but I like them better when they jam a bit. |
| 15 | | Daily Thompson Chuparosa
Muenster 24.1 @ Rare Guitar
High energy Rock'n'roll at its best. Never quite got into their studio stuff, but they are a highly charismatic, fun and energetic live band. |
| 14 | | Dopethrone Broke Sabbath
Muenster 13.6 @ Rare Guitar
Definitely a coked-out performance lol. As heavy and crushing as I expected |
| 13 | | Nightstalker Return From The Point Of No Return
Tabernas Rock Fest
Saw them twice this year, this was the better one and probably the best I've seen them. Just ultra-tight stoner rock with over 30 years of experience at this point. And they not only know how to write riffs, but catchy songs as well, easily one of the most melodic stoner acts out there. |
| 12 | | Mojo & the Kitchen Brothers Into The Centre Of The Cat’s Eye Nebula
Krach am Bach Festival
Big surprise for me as I went without expectations into this (they played the opener slot and this festival), crazy musicianship from very young lads, psychedelic and groovy as fuck. Expect to hear from this band |
| 11 | | Dirty Sound Magnet Dreaming In Dystopia
Fusion Festival
One of the best live rock bands out there I'll tell you this every year, this wasn't even their strongest performance |
| 10 | | King Buffalo Regenerator
Fusion Festival
My favorite live performance of them, they finally delivered live (not that the two times I've seen them before were bad at all, but still a bit disappointing considering how much I love their music) and boy it's spacy psychedelic stoner at its finest when they do. |
| 9 | | Psychedelic Porn Crumpets Carpe Diem, Moonman
Muenster 30.5 @ Gleis 22
Speaking of Psychedelia at itss finest, finally got to see these aussies live and holy shit they're peaking again after some okayish albums. Most of the stuff was from the new album and from High Visceral, great setlist for my taste and a high energy performance. |
| 8 | | Couch Slut You Could Do It Tonight
Fusion Festival
Intense, disgusting, crushing, flooring performance. Brilliant execution of their very disturbing, personal noisy sludge sound. You can feel the singer's pain in her voice and her face which she bloodied with the microphone. |
| 7 | | Faust Faust IV
Fusion Festival
What a bunch of mad hippies, they played Faust IV in its full length. Transcendental, highly emotional experience. They truly believe in the unifying power of music and make you feel it in every bone, the string section is absolutely wild and to see Jean-Hervé Péron at his old age having so much fun on stage is infectious as fuck. |
| 6 | | Blood Incantation Absolute Elsewhere
Cologne 1.5 @ Carlswerk
Band is peaking right now, crazy good performances overall, they obviously played their whole new album which is such a ride plus some extras. I was fully pleased with this and am looking forward to seeing what else they're capable of. |
| 5 | | Tangerine Dream Raum
Duesseldorf 24.4 @ Tonhalle
They played in a venue that is mostly used for opera and classical music, and this was easily the craziest sound experience, they played a 30 min jam throughout the set in the key that matches the intrinsic resonance of the building, and you felt it vibrating to your inner core. That synth setup is something else as well, what a machine Thorsten Quaeschning is operating on. |
| 4 | | Maruja Pain to Power
Cologne 20.11 @ Luxor
What a dense, intense, energetic performance, the band is locked-in, I am blessed to have seen them in such a small venue, I don't think this is happening again at this point. The sound was perfect, you could hear every single sound, could understand every single word, feel everything the band wants you to feel, it was a very uplifting performance I will not forget. |
| 3 | | REZN Chaotic Divine
Krach am Bach Festival
Another band with a saxophone, completely different sound. This was everything I expected and much more. I demand more doom bands with sax players right now. Absolutely floored by this, truly a cosmic doom experience. |
| 2 | | Model/Actriz Pirouette
Fusion Festival
A band that shouldn't work on paper but does. Highly intimate performance by the singer, probably the best stage presence I've seen...ever? He really puts his whole persona and heart in his performance. This combined with the ultra tight performances of the rest of the band, it's just barely beaten to my top spot. |
| 1 | | Osees Abomination Revealed at Last
Krach am Bach Festival
The best high energy live rock band out there. Period. Their studio stuff doesn't even come close. I had so much fun with this set, the two drummers bring such energy and dynamic to the sound and they're soo soo incredible tight. They made me mosh their whole friggin set, I didn't think that would happen again at 29 years of age, but there I was, completely exhausted and happy as a kid on christmas. |
