Getting Killed

#1 - not much to add to the discourse. didnt think itd be my thing but they are so god damn weird and yet really catchy. trinidad is the sound of someone having a psychotic break, in a good way
2La Dispute
No One Was Driving the Car

#2 - thought this may be a hot take but given how high it did in the sput rankings maybe not. i loved it. their sound is a bit 'matured' and heavier, but jordans songwriting and lyricism is still top tier
3Maruja
Pain to Power

#3 - again been beaten to death a bit but thought the 'direct' approach, while polarising, made for a more straight forwardly punk record which vibed with a lot of the song writing, but still pretty intense throughout
4The World Is a Beautiful Place...
Dreams Of Being Dust

#4 - took their sound as far as they could on illusory walls, then got pissed off and made an actual hardcore record. results are unsurprisingly good
5Turnstile
Never Enough

#5 - was very torn on this pick and this record as a whole. for now, still 'pro' turnstile even though this is essentially Glow On 2.0, but they do need to evolve on the next record. hardcore music for normie, but still a tonne of fun
6The Callous Daoboys
I Don't Want to See You in Heaven

HONORABLE MENTION - maybe the best 'core' or mathcore record all year
7Swans
Birthing

HONORABLE MENTION - not their best, but better than their last few and a decent ending for this phase
8Wednesday
Bleeds

HONORABLE MENTION - surprised this didnt make the sput list (unless i missed it), thought it was better than rat saw god. great mix of trailor trash country, rock, shoegaze and 90s vibes
9Emma Goldman
all you are is we

HONORABLE MENTION - not a finished package but a promising debut, we need more high end screamo
10Deadguy
Near-Death Travel Services

HONORABLE MENTION - cool return, still sound great after all these years
11Boneflower
Reveries

HONORABLE MENTION - another good screamo record and minor breakout. felt a bit like last years Frail Body but not as heavy or intense
12Great Grandpa
Patience, Moonbeam

HONORABLE MENTION - wouldnt normally be my jam as its so god damn twee, but it was too gorgeous sounding to deny
13Ho99o9
Tomorrow We Escape

HONORABLE MENTION - saw these guys like 9 years ago supporting DEP on their farewell tour and they were dec, cool to see them start to realise their potential and have all the pieces fit now with their blend of punk, hardcore rap and metal
14Propagandhi
At Peace

HONORABLE MENTION - their worst album, but it still SOUNDS good even if they have found 'peace' in their older ages. still has some tasty riffs and cool lyrics even if the bite isnt there
15Pup
Who Will Look After the Dogs?

HONORABLE MENTION - likewise probs their worst release, but still has some fun tracks, the one with jeff rosenstock bangs
16The Smith Street Band
Once I Was Wild

HONORABLE MENTION - its dec
17Viagra Boys
Viagr Aboys

HONORABLE MENTION - my fav band who sing about looking at yer mums feet on the internet
