Top 10 albums of 1996
I am a 90's kid. generally my favourite decade in music. 96 was a good one. |
| 10 | | OutKast ATLiens
Moving away from their Southern funk roots, OutKast embraced a more spacey, atmospheric sound, cementing their place as groundbreaking innovators in hip-hop. |
| 9 | | Underworld Second Toughest in the Infants
Before the success of Born Slippy, there was first this album. Even without that landmark song they where still able to make a classic album with a very cold sound. They where clearly at their creative peak |
| 8 | | Manic Street Preachers Everything Must Go
On this record the Manics changed their sound in a big way but without any signs of awkwardness. Their dark lyrics flowed very well with their more britpop sound. Creating a very dark britpop classic. |
| 7 | | Type O Negative October Rust
A goth rock with shoegaze influences make for a thick dark record that doesn't just let you be sad and miserable but actually helps finding a relief for those dark feelings. |
| 6 | | Weezer Pinkerton
Everybody knows the tale. Started of universally hated and ended up universally loved.
It actually is a great record with a special vibe. it has some teeth to it even though it also feels pathetic for laying all the awkward feelings so bare. |
| 5 | | Belle and Sebastian If You're Feeling Sinister
The band's masterpiece. Even though they are quite a consistend ensemble. Why does this record still stands out among their discography? The bend always makes small baroque like pop songs but on this album there is room to breath. it is an airy relaxing album but with that also comes a feeling of melancholy that flows through the record. |
| 4 | | Tool Ænima
Such an improvement from the first record. which in itself was a great record but on this one they have made a masterpiece from beginning to end. |
| 3 | | Fugees The Score
Conscious lyrics with soul and reggea influences. One of the biggest records of the year. |
| 2 | | Beck Odelay
I was not excited to listen to this album. Genre hopping sounded like a bad thing instead of a feature. But it turned out to be such a fun album while also having a lot of interesting musical ideas. |
| 1 | | DJ Shadow Endtroducing.....
one of the first trip hop albums i listened to. it was a very dark listen at first but i came around to the genre and also this album. The fact that this was made with only samples in the 90's is insane. |
