The Cure Ranked
My favourite band of all time. Sometimes I was thinking how i would rank their albums but I always had a hard time doing so.
Now i am forcing myself. |
| 14 | | The Cure The Top
This was a though one. Something has got to be last, i guess it is this one. I really like The Caterpillar and the vibe of the record but i really never put this on. and i can't say that for any of the other albums.
It is more psychedelic then any of the other records and actually strikes a good balance of the more poppy side that Robert Smith was exploring and the darker sound they where known for. but you can hear the drugs and booze flowing through the record. The yelps are more yelpy and it all feels more sloppy then we are used to. |
| 13 | | The Cure 4:13 Dream
I always said this one was quite underrated and yet here I am ranking it as the second worst Cure album.
This is just a very nice breezy Cure pop record. Just a pleasent listen you can put on in the car with your family there and that's not something you can say about many Cure records.
But it is never quite thrilling. I guess it's a good sign when a 6.5 ends up as the second to last. |
| 12 | | The Cure The Cure
My least favourite thing about this album is the cover. It really doesn't feel like The Cure to me.
oddly enough, The End of the World is actually the song that got me into The Cure.
This overall is just a pretty cohesive package with songs like Lost actually being quite artistic. |
| 11 | | The Cure Bloodflowers
While this is supposed to be a return to form of The Cure, for me it was probably my least pleasent experience with one of their albums. I found it way to slow and boring. The sound of a boring sunday on record.
I feel that time was kind to this album though. Nowadays you can just put on the song you want and you don't have to listen to the full album that all are just long mid tempo songs.
Every song on here on it's own is good but because they are all together it makes for a very boring experience. |
| 10 | | The Cure Wild Mood Swings
Another one of their all over the place records. It can't decide whether it wants to be happy or sad.
In my opinion the happier songs on here don't work while the sadder songs are some of the best they ever made.
I find this record their more frustrating because if you listen to their Join the Dots album you have plenty of songs that are really good and would have made the album a lot better. Also a lot of singles covers are so much better then the weird puppet cover we got. |
| 9 | | The Cure Three Imaginary Boys
The one that feels the least like The Cure. it is quite enjoyable but it is not really the things i look for in a record. but for the end of the 70's it's a great pop punk album for such a young band. |
| 8 | | The Cure Songs of a Lost World
This one really brought back The Cure love. Nobody saw it comming that they would return with one of the better records they ever made.
For me though, it is the type of record I'm not really into. mid tempo slow burner songs. reminiscent of Bloodflowers but having a bit more bite making it a little more interesting.
I probably need to give this album more time but for now this is it. |
| 7 | | The Cure Seventeen Seconds
Making this list I am realising that The cure have 2 types of albums. The ones that they were able to stay on theme and the ones that are all over the place. This one is very good at staying on theme. But it is a record that you put on, really enjoy but kind of forget how half of the songs went as soon as the record stops. |
| 6 | | The Cure Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
This was a bit of a weird time for The Cure. they had their dark period and then they had a lot more success with their pop period.
But Robert Smith felt that the dark music was still very much a big part of their image.
Instead of combining these 2 in one sound they went for combining both types of songs into one huge album.
Making for a record that has some of the best songs they ever created and a few that are average. |
| 5 | | The Cure Faith
A nice and gloomy listen. One to put on in the background of melancholic rainy day.
Consistent and every song fits well in the theme. It just misses some more pop oriented songs to pick up the pace.
I think it would benefit a lot from Charlotte Sometimes. |
| 4 | | The Cure Pornography
A very important album in music history. Also very consistent and nice and compact. Not trying to overstay it's welcome.
But it is just not an album i put on a lot. I also don't really feel a connection to the subject matters. It is more a general bleakness then one i can really relate to.
But it's still a great goth classic and maybe the best record in the genre. |
| 3 | | The Cure Wish
Maybe a bit of a controversial one. It is not the most consistent and can't decide whether it wants to be a dark Cure album or a happy one. But I really like their overall sound on this one. so I can overlook some of the shortcomings. From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea and A Letter to Elise are some of the best songs they ever did.
Just wished they skipped Wendy Time.. |
| 2 | | The Cure The Head on the Door
A perfect pop record. All great songs making for a great record to put on again and again without ever getting tired of it.
Besides the obvious singles there are a lot more great songs to explore if you look deeper. Like Kyoto song and A Night Like this. |
| 1 | | The Cure Disintegration
This one is rather obvious. This is never up for debate as this is my favourite album of all time.
In my opinion it is perfect. It flows amazingly into deeper and darker sounds becoming increasingly more depressing and angry. Until it erupts with the title track. Looking back at the chaos it caused with the last 2 tracks. |
