I wrote a book
Saw a few self-shilling lists here and there before after the fact, but I don't like stealing thunder so I waited for a more appropriate moment instead of going "hey pay attention to me too". Coming up on the first anniversary of it being finished. Link will be in the comments below. |
| 1 | | Cannibal Corpse The Bleeding
It's a zombie novel, but I've been a fan of that microgenre since being a teenager. I've seen the several peaks and valleys the genre overall has had over the years. I know some pitfalls to avoid or work around because I've seen/played/read enough things that have disappointed me somewhere basically. A couple of things that set this apart from the rest: it takes place in Japan. Granted my slow speed in writing this book makes that one not so unique when Train to Busan made a small zombie renaissance over in East Asia, but it's still a location quite underutilized. I've done enough research to where it should at least be in the acceptable realm of accuracy, but I've never been, never talked to someone from there, etc. |
| 2 | | Deceased Fearless Undead Machines
It started as a web serial that readers could nudge, so of course with my initial suggestions the internet picked the main characters to be a bunch of idols. That ended up working to my advantage, since it forced me to make a central cast of characters. They do have to get bailed out by a genre-savvy security dude, because otherwise a bunch of teenage girls are quickly zombie chow, but at least I try to make him believable and flawed and not some John Army guy that armies all over those zombies. This story also focuses more on the characters and the psychological toll over all of the blood and violence (not that there's a shortage of that). The last gimmick is most of the story takes place in the first day of the apocalypse. |
| 3 | | Impetigo Horror Of The Zombies
This was written over the course of five years, from 2019 to 2024, before a certain pandemic that at least allowed me to make the pandemic I was writing about more believable. I've had bad depression for at least a decade, and this was kind of what I latched onto to get out of it. Always wrote stuff since high school, depression killed me accomplishing much of anything through most of the 2010s. |
| 4 | | Death Scream Bloody Gore
I'm one of those "give advice but don't follow through with it yourself" type of people, and I decided to take the approach I spun up for someone else: set the lowest possible floor for progress. At least one sentence a day. It's the routine you have to slip into to get big projects done. Granted I still only feel feelings about finishing this vicariously since I think depression has fried my brain, buuut my copium is I planned a trilogy so it's not done yet. Working on the second book but it's going a little slow, trying not to be too hard on myself but oh well. I'm also bad at writing multiple things at once. I'd like to get some more music reviews done but those kind of compete for my limited energy. |
| 5 | | Acryl Madness Kaidan
But enough blogposting, this is a music site. Rest of the list are albums that were important to me while writing the book.
