I'm sure most will see this as a controversial ranking.

Saturday Night Wrist

Alot of the detractors will say this album is very scattershot in it's presentation of ideas, but I disagree. Aside from "Pink Cellphone" being below average, and "Mein" having a wasted feature, every single song is almost perfection. One of the best album openers in the entire genre. "Cherry Waves", "Beware", "Rats! Rats! Rats!", "Xerces", "Combat", and "Riviere" are all top 20 Tones. Never understood the hate for "Rapture" either. I have fond memories of busting dozens of nuts to this album cover during my preteen years, so admittedly by biases towards this record run deep.

Best track: "Combat" (Most underrated Tones track)

Most consistent and musically diverse album since SNW, with not a single stinker. Aside from the closer, none of the songs hit the highs of some of their best tracks in some of their older works, but there's never a dip in quality from start to finish.
Best track: "Departing The Body"

Consistent in quality throughout. Best opener in their discography in my opinion. The entire album maintains the same forceful energy. Love the drawn out, spacey tone setting outros in tracks like "The Spell of Mathematics" and "Pompeji". The biggest criticism i see most often about this release is it's lack of ideas and diversity in sound. I can understand that, however I feel as though the ideas on display here are presented with enough energy and bitchin' riffage to carry it all the way to the end. Plus, fantastic production.

Best track: "The Link Is Dead"

Aside from having a bland and formulaic opening track in "Swerve City", the rest of this album kicks Faggoty Jom's ass (ban me no balls) from start to finish. "Romantic Dreams", "Leathers", "Poltergiest", and "Entombed" is quite possibly the best four song run in their entire discography. That combined with the sprawling, progressive nature of the two album highlights "Tempest" and "Rosemary", and the unexpectedly serene closing track "What Happened To You?" elevate this album to almost god tier status for me. Best track: "Rosemary"

White Pony

I know most will see this as criminal. "Street Carp" and "Teenager" are below average tracks. "Digital Bath", "Passenger", "Knife Party", "Korea", "Change" and "Pink Maggit" are all legendary. An astounding makeover for the band both lyrically and stylistically, especially coming off the heels of their previous work. Iconic and mesmerizing.
Best track: "Knife Party"

Gore

Now I'll admit this album plays it too safe on occasion, particularly in the first half after the fantastic opener. And the production isn't the greatest. This album reminds me of SNW with some of it's more spacey vibes, but doesn't pull it off quite as well. I have a soft spot for this album though, as i feel it includes some of the highest highs in their entire catalogue in "Prayers/Triangles", "Phantom Bride", "Hearts/Wires" and the title track, which has such a nasty hook, and singlehandedly provides us with "Chino's most visceral and tortured vocal performance. Even the more universally disliked tracks on this album, though I feel sometimes they can rightfully be described as too safe, I find them all to be bangers, and none of which being offensively bad.

Diamond Eyes

Not much to say about this record that hasn't already been said. Some fantastic stuff here including "Sextape", "Prince", "Risk", "Beauty School", and "Royal". On the other side of the coin, title track "Diamond Eyes" is their single most offensively formulaic and unimaginative opener yet. Roughly half of the album is fantastic, but the other half ranges from average to downright bland. Album closer is an odd one, and to this day I don't find it to be a very satisfying end.

Best track: "Sextape"

To this day this album hasn't quite grown on me as a whole. "Minerva" is the single most overrated track they ever put out. Some of their best work here, though. "Hexagram", "Battle Axe" and "Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event" are all top 20 Tones tracks. I'm convinced that one day this album will click with me on a deeper level if I listen to it during the perfect time.

Don't have much to say. Great album from a band starting to find their footing. Two tracks here are arguably their most popular tracks of all time. Not much in the way of ideas here, but great for what it is.

Best track: "Lotion"

Eh. Decent.

Best Track: "Bored"
