09.08.25 | Yeesh, I wish my year was this good lol but it has been pretty solid. Can't say for sure with 3 months still left to go, but I'd say it's at least been a better year than both 2024 and 2023. |
mkmusic1995
09.08.25 | Definitely agree with that, I feel like 2026 might be a bit lackluster because every band under the sun is releasing an album this year. |
gabba
09.08.25 | Both 2024 and 2025 were/are outstanding, although my list would be completely different than yours. And we also have the new Anna von Hausswolff album to be released for Halloween. |
mkmusic1995
09.08.25 | "Both 2024 and 2025 were/are outstanding, although my list would be completely different than yours."
I think that truly speaks to the quality of this year. People with different tastes in music finding loads of good stuff in their respective spaces. And also yes, completely forgot about Hausswolff, looking forward to that one as well! |
budgie
09.08.25 | music hasnt been good since 1809 |

09.08.25 | I saw the title on the front page and my immediate response was, "...no..?" lol
It hasn't been terrible by any means but not the best even of the 2020s and *objectively* not going back to 2010 |
brickhed
09.08.25 | "honestly its the worst year for music i can remember in my adult life, especially for metal."
man what are you on 2025 has been quite kind to metal in particular |
budgie
09.08.25 | bricked uve only rated 4 metal albums above a 3.0 in 2025 and they are all death metal is that your standard for a quite kind year to metal |
ComeToDaddy
09.08.25 | I feel like it's been mid at best, not as good as last year and something like 2010, 2013 or 2016 wins in a landslide. Could change with a couple months to go though! |
RogueNine
09.08.25 | Not particularly tbh. |
Hyperion1001

RVAHC13
09.09.25 | 2020’s have been a renaissance for death metal but 2025 wasn’t the strongest year compared to the others |
cylinder
09.09.25 | yeah honestly the 2020s are a second golden age for dm |
Kusangii
09.09.25 | Music died in 1993. Only 12 good albums have been released since then (most of them in 1994, being already recorded by 1993). Music achieved its creative peak in albums like Onward to Golgotha, Pure Holocaust, and The Red in the Sky is Ours, elevating music into a legitimate art form. Now, thanks to Slaughter of the Soul and Gojira, all its potential was squandered and music has been reduced into being mere gimmick ridden noise for drunk idiots (i.e. the lowest common denominator - stop trying to turn music into AC/DC). |

09.09.25 | "not this again
i'll just accept that you're an old man who thinks all new music sucks"

Muzz79

Ereb Altor - Hälsingemörker (epic Viking metal)
Saor - Amidst the Ruins (atmospheric/folk black metal)
Sonus Mortis - Synapse the Hivemind (symphonic/progressive death metal)

In Mourning - The Immortal (progressive melodeath)
Rivers of Nihil - Rivers of Nihil (progressive death metal)
Kardashev - Alunea (progressive death metal)
Bleed From Within - Zenith (melodic metalcore)
Ghostwriter - The Five Hundred (melodic metalcore)
Bleeding Through - Nine (atmospheric metalcore)
Also dig new Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, Deftones, Cradle of Filth and Machine Head |
markjamie
09.09.25 | I think it's been pretty average actually. A handful of albums have hit 4.5, but last year was stronger. 2022 was the year for me. |
evilford
09.09.25 | Nope |
Faraudo
09.09.25 | The best year so far this decade, at the very least |
evilford
09.09.25 | 2020 and 2021 were way better, and probably 2024 too |
Egarran
09.09.25 | >so ur first message to me in like 3 months is to correct a typo
I've been burned before when I opened up to you. |
Hawks
09.09.25 | It is definitely not, but its been pretty damn good so far.
2 is one of the worst albums ever made though lol. |
zakalwe
09.09.25 | Around three of these albums will be remembered come 2027 |
mkmusic1995
09.09.25 | Metal has not been my focus for listening this year as it has in previous years. I agree that really great metal releases have been few and far between but I'm also not a death metal aficionado as many of you are so I can't speak to that. I think there have been a lot of left field releases that I wasn't expecting to love as much as I did. |
DoofDoof
09.09.25 | Could do with something unexpected like The Cure returning last year with a classic album from out of nowhere.
I've enjoyed this year but mostly because I've cast that net very wide. |
RVAHC13
09.09.25 | Not a great year for metal or hardcore but certainly a great year for experimental/art rock, post-punk, slowcore, indie and folk. |
Jmal00
09.09.25 | Man I envy your enthusiasm for this year. Unfortunately the crop has been mediocre at best with a few notable bright spots. All in all not great not terrible. |
NorwichScene
09.09.25 | September: Silverstein and Twenty One Pilots this week, PRESIDENT, The Starting Line and Biffy Clyro in couple of weeks with The Midnight and Deaf Havana end of the month. October starts with Yellowcard too |
mkmusic1995
09.09.25 | I also saw that The Mountain Goats announced an album for November, so the releases just keep coming for this year. |
TheArtofTheGanja
