w(rec)k me
czech my ratings and rec things I would enjoy plz---looking especially for folksy/countryish/slowcore leaning things, been digging Neil Young and Jason Molina stuff ahrd recently but anything you think I would enjoy is welcome |
| 1 | | Neil Young On the Beach
most recent addition to my 5s this thing knocked my fucking socks off |
| 2 | | Acetone Acetone
was kinda surprised to see how few ratings this has---kinda like low with twang |
| 3 | | Songs: Ohia Didn't It Rain
this very well could be better than magnolia electric co, back half is immense |
| 4 | | Duster Stratosphere
this album is my goat no contest not because it's an astonishing work of genius but because I feel I can put it on anytime and in any mood and it covers me like a heavy blanket |
| 5 | | Bluetile Lounge Lowercase
rec'd by cylinder: have jammed before but rating was raised to 3.5 from 3---I had to immerse myself in this fully, first few times I listened I thought it was frontloaded but now I think it's backloaded honestly, still dig half-cut a lil more cuz more intense |
| 6 | | Talons' Rustic Bullshit
#1 descriptor for this on rym is 'self-hatred' I can't wait
update: very simple short diy, always caustic and sometimes strikingly beautiful, feels like every lyric is a little bomb packed with potential energy, initial listens 3.5 but def potential to grow |
| 7 | | Good Night and Good Morning Good Night & Good Morning
looks gud I think I'm disproportionately more likely to rate eps higher than lps mostly because they rarely drag
update: I was pretty conflicted about this one: my struggle with ambient is that it seems to be entirely reliant on the significance you attach to the music, not the music itself. the first few tracks failed entirely to grab me but then wine hit and I started seeing the light, after a bunch of jams I feel comfortable giving this a 3.5 |
| 8 | | Grandaddy Blu Wav
rec'd by Hawks: this looks very cool the space rock revival tag has me all excited and blushing and giggling
update: strong dream pop w/ some twang just when it's needed most, grew on my by the second listen, also a long time ago I stumbled across sophtware slump and meant to jam and forgot so thank you for re-putting me on, strong 3.5 |
| 9 | | Jandek Somebody in the Snow
rec'd by Supercoolguy64: jesus this guy is prolific I love me some experimental rock though so watch out |
| 10 | | Arab Strap Philophobia
rec'd by Futures: got this band mixed up with belle & sebastian because they have an album called the boy with the arab strap, knowing that this isn't belle & sebastian makes me look forward to it a lot more |
| 11 | | ee Ramadan
rec'd by TheWrenKing: this looks immensely cool x fantastic album cover
update: very good, such a good combo of genres and the cello was scrumptious, sucks that streaming version is so quiet, weak 4 |
| 12 | | Linda Perhacs Parallelograms
sorry TheWrenKing I'm only putting you on here twice BUT if these two are good I will likely czech your others except big blood I don't really dig gothic country |
| 13 | | Purr (FRA) Whales Lead to the Deep Sea
rec'd by swallowtales: this looks like my shit thank you
update: very good post-rock a la slint s/t single, liked it best when they added layers to the songs or when things got crunchy (the organ in No Sex Last Night and the howled vox in Schoolyard), unfortunately was dragged down by the worst songs sprinkled evenly throughout as well as the worst song being the closing track (it should be opposite), verdict strong 3.5 |
| 14 | | David Thomas Broughton The Complete Guide to Insufficiency
rec'd by cylinder and TheWrenKing: alright if both of you insist |
| 15 | | Grizzly Bear Yellow House
rec'd by Squiggly: sorry Ys is one of three albums I have awarded the score of 1 I am very reluctant to listen to divers so we'll start here and if it is good I will jam Julie Byrne, already listened to Galaxie 500 |
| 16 | | Cat Power What Would the Community Think
rec'd by TheGreatQ: only listened to moon pix by her but that was pretty dang good |
| 17 | | The Mountain Goats The Coroner's Gambit
rec'd by TheGreatQ: have meant to czech this band b4 thank you for putting me on also sorry I am giving you a two album trial as well |
| 18 | | Townes Van Zandt Townes Van Zandt
rec'd by DominionMM1: this looks exemplary, got interested after pitchfork did the sunday review and ran through his story |
| 19 | | Tenhi Valkama
rec'd by Dedes |
| 20 | | In Gowan Ring Hazel Steps Through A Weathered Home
rec'd by Dedes: never jammed any neofolk/dark folk things other than what bleeds its way into black metal so high hopes for these two |
| 21 | | Mayhew the Traitor Deathwish
rec'd by Grimlin: this looks very interesting thank you for putting me on |
| 22 | | Dr. Yen Lo Days With Dr. Yen Lo
rec'd by Jash: listened to honor killed the samurai following Ka's death last year and I've been meaning to dig a little harder into his discog for a while, looking forward to this one |
