PitchforkArms goes to China

Currently in Suzhou for a work trip. Have been here about a week and am here for around another week. Had been dreading it mightily - have been dealing with some truly wretched anxiety and depression after my partner of 12 years left me. It's taken my personhood out of life lately. Had been living at my parents instead of the home - it truly has felt cursed), have had no motivation for anything, no joy spare for the moments of distraction, and no desire to pick up the guitar and pen/paper to write music. Have officially turned a new leaf, I believe. The city is nice and pleasant. Work colleagues are fantastically accommodating and friendly. Food is absolutely exquisite - lot's of soups and broth-based meat dishes. Haven't had anything yet that wasn't great. First week was a bit of an internal hell come to life dealing with loneliness and anxiety and whatnot, but I had a weekend that was totally out of my comfort zone yet was deeply pleasant and there was much familiar comfort within my uncomfortability and fear. Met some new people and had good time. Hung at a brewery with some well-spoken metalheads who nerded out with my for hours until they handed me an acoustic guitar and had me play american folk and country tunes in the street until 2AM. Met a girl who has made me feel quite invincible, too, which is surprising and pleasant (I had literally never approached a female in my entire life before this). The tides have turned and I have excitement for the remaining week-ish and the possibility of coming back, as well as a bit of a new or evolving feeling about things more generally. Things have been quite dark, and I think the light is being seen. Have already started writing some songs in the last few days, which has been a non-factor in my life for some time. So begins the "say yes" era and getting out of the comfort zone more often. List is jamz I have been on while walking around the streets of Suzhou.
