| Porkypine Tree Best Albums
I have been a member of sputnikmusic for 23 months and 1
day/. As I approach the two year mark, i'm beginning to reflect
on how much this site has helped me with my rapidly
expanding music taste. I remember one of the
first bands this site helped me get into was Porcupine Tree,
and they were one of the first bands
that started expanding my tastes away from metal. I don't have
their first two releases, but
these are the 7 albums (and 1 EP) of theirs ranked in order
from my favorite to least favorite. | | 1 | | Porcupine Tree Stupid Dream
At first, I was not all that fond of this album for whatever reason. I suppose part of it could have been
the
lack of distortion and heavy riffs. It wasn't until a week or so ago that I feel in love this album. When I
add
new music to my itunes, I have to delete some of it to make new space. Sometime last week, I
considered
deleting this album in order to make space for Mr. Bungle. However, I decided against it and gave this
another listen the next day. My rating of the album went from a 3 to a 4.5 with one listen, and I have
given this a few additional listens since. Baby Dream in Cellophane isn't that good of track but the rest
makes up for it. Especially Even Less and Don't Hate Me. | | 2 | | Porcupine Tree Deadwing
Initially, this was my favorite Porcupine Tree album. As an album, this is their most consistent imo.
However, I feel that Stupid Dream has greater emotional power and a few stronger tracks. Arriving
Somewhere But Not Here, the title track, and The Start of Something Beautiful are definite standouts
though. | | 3 | | Porcupine Tree The Sky Moves Sideways
This album seems to be overlooked by many on this site. Shame, because this is PT at their proggiest.
This
is very much like a more modernized Pink Floyd album. The title track(s) are phenomenal, and make use
of
a countless number of genres. The middle tracks are actually really strong tracks as well. | | 4 | | Porcupine Tree In Absentia
This was my first Porcupine Tree album, and after I let it grow on me, it became my personal favorite
for
the longest time. However, recently it has begun to wear off me a little bit. It feels a bit long at times,
and
a few songs definitely aren't anything special. Trains will always remain one of their top 5 songs, and
Blackest Eyes, .3, The Creator Has a Mastertape, and Heart Attack in a Layby are also some of my
favorites. This is really, really close to 3 btw. | | 5 | | Porcupine Tree Nil Recurring
I actually downloaded this a few days ago. I was surprised how much I enjoyed every track, especially
the
last 2. Pardon me for placing this EP of b-sides in front of the actual album but all 4 of these songs are
better than half of FOABP. | | 6 | | Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet
Anesthetize is the best song by Porcupine Tree, no competition there. That song alone is enough to
give
this album a 4/5 rating. The title track and Way Out of Here are also excellent tracks. However, the
remaining three songs are nothing special compared to most other PT songs. | | 7 | | Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun
I'm not a fan of this album. I think as a whole it's too poppy for my tastes, and the production is kinda
thin. Hatesong and Russia on Ice are phenomenal tracks mind you, but most of the other tracks don't
interest me at all. I find a few of the choruses quite annoying as well. | | 8 | | Porcupine Tree Signify
Dark Matter is one of Porcupine Tree's best song ever. The rest? not so much. I enjoy the atmosphere
conveyed by the album but I dont get much out of this. | |
