04.16.25 | Idk Mamalarky’s new album Hex Key has some of that “young and a mess” vibe to it |

04.16.25 | I feel this as some one who loves death metal, beatdown, R&B and house music |
BallsToTheWall
04.16.25 | That’s a good vibe to strive for. |

04.16.25 | yeah I've found that Brian Eno doesn't go down very well at house parties compared with his godson Fred again |

04.16.25 | not to be that guy but like being true to yourself is the most beautiful thing. totally valid to want to fit in, but would seek out the music that speaks to you first and foremost rather than seeking out music that matches a particular vibe |

There are a lot of core shows that I go to but I find myself increasingly alienated from people there because most of them are still in their teens or in college. Granted, I'm not trying too hard to fit in, maybe just trying to change things up a little. |

04.17.25 | core show audiences are constantly going through cycles of death and renewal and you never want to be in the oldest quintile. i'm in my late 20s and the last core show i went to (a friend's band) around age 25 i got crowdkilled hard, ate a phat black eye, and have never been back |

04.17.25 | outside of the stuff you already have listed (brat, strokes, arctic monkeys, mitski are all essentials for this sorta thing) i'd throw out:
tyler, the creator - chromakopia (just because its the newest, really a skeleton key artist for this kinda thing)
chappell roan - the rise and fall
lorde - melodrama
and if you think they like guitars:
turnstile - glow on
alvvays - blue rev
i've found all these albums more or less hit the four quadrants of being "hip", good(!?!), fun, and basic enough to not put people off at a function. |

04.17.25 | even more broadly speaking, if your goal is to be able to fit in/"hold your own" in social settings music-wise, i think just developing opinions/appreciation for the main pop girls and whatever handful of rappers are popping off at a given moment gets you like 90% there |

04.17.25 | Hmmm
Less chill more punk rawk
Bug I think PUP-The Dream is Over and The Menzingers-On the Impossible Past encapsulate this wildly well. Both have a blunt portrayal of the guilt.and embarrassment of young people fuckups all funneled through a VERY weed and alcohol laden lense to cope with such fuckups, with a still healthy tincture of laughter to help offset it. Also they riff. |

I have heard of them in the same conversation as Spanish Love Songs, who I liked a lot |
