Almost as good as part 1, been revisiting 61 and 79 this year, also been getting into the follow up to 'Gentlemen' which I'd not really given too much of a chance before.
@Doof Thanks mate. Ye I was trying to dig a little more into Afghan's discog as well, also really only jammed that record.
Also damn, that's a behemoth list. Gives me some cool stuff to check out, also ones I forgot about. Like the amazing Morphine, Acetone and Amon Tobin. I also haven't really touched on Southern Rap yet. There's a gold mine of good stuff there.
Hell ye. Would have included a couple more noise ones, but was lazy and didn't feel like adding to the database. One I would have def included is Dave Gilden's Texas Chainsaw Dopefiend.
Can only include so much on one list aha. True tho. Those are all classics. I think I actually meant Memphis. Stuff like Koopsta Knicca, King Skinny Pimp, Lord Finesse, DJ Screw, Children of the Corn, Tommy Wright III and others.
Was curious so I had to check. Here are all my 9/10 and 10/10's from the 90s:
American Football - LP1
Bjork - Homogenic
Anthony Braxton - Willisau (Quartet) 1991
Burzum - Filosofem
Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime
Fugazi - Repeater
Gorguts - Obscura
Ground-Zero - Consume Red
The Jesus Lizard - Liar
Mobb Deep - The Infamous
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West
Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Naked City - Leng tch'e
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Nirvana - In Utero
Nurse With Wound - Thunder Perfect Mind
Portishead - Dummy
Primus - Frizzle Fry
Radiohead - OK Computer
Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill
Slint - Spiderland
Slowdive - Souvlaki
Swans - Swans Are Dead
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock
This Head - Made Available: John Peel Sessions (archival, whatever)
Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die
Unwound - Fake Train
Ved Buens Ende - Written in Waters
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
almost threw up at the shoegaze start, but was very excited to see the noise parts and 33. Personally I think their second album is better but From The Shadows is a lot heavier with more interesting clean male vocals.
also this has given me the motivation to give Heroin Man a try again. Didn't click with me in my noise rock phase but maybe it will now.
@brickhed Ye that Unholy album is v good, such a heavy band. Heroin Man is kind of annoying, so I get it not clicking. It's also really trashy and a lot of fun aha.
@mryrtmr Ye I listened to Cows a bit when I was younger, been a minute tho. I'll have to revisit them.
@colin
if you like real heavy death doom then Wormphlegm - Tomb of the Ancient King is a great album. Its not 90s so it can't go in the list but if you make a 2000's list its deserving. It gets better after the 30 minute long opener.
If you like grating shrieks assaulting your ears even more you might like their first demo, In an Excruciating Way Infested with Vermin and Violated by Executioners Who Practice Incendiarism and Desanctifying the Pious
@brickhed Wormphlegm is so good and unhinged. I have a bootleg patch of their logo on a jacket. Also nice, Secret Stairways is fantastic. If you end up wanting some more DS recs, I'd gladly send u some. Big fan of the genre.
finally giving that secret stairways album a listen
feels a lot more ambient that dungeon synth at times, but is pretty cool overall. I like the mystic vibe the music goes for overall, its a bit different than outright medieval whimsy type stuff.
