My Recent Digs
Stuff I've been getting into over the last month or so. Falling back in love w heavier music has been really nice (: |
| 1 | | Meshuggah Nothing
Finally seeing the light w this band has been quite rewarding. This has been my favorite out of their LPs. Need to jam Blue soon! |
| 2 | | Nevermore The Politics of Ecstasy
Just getting into this band and I love Loomis' playing. Of course he is a goated shredder but he also puts a lot of thought into the arrangements and rhythm aspects of their sound. They definitely developed their sound more past this album but the rawness and hard ass riffs really make this one my personal favorite. Planning a discog rating once I revisit everything. Title track is hitting massively these days |
| 3 | | Pyrexia Sermon of Mockery
Hard af NY DM. This is like Suffocation for people who like to mosh and that's preaching to the choir w me |
| 4 | | Dehumanized Prophecies Foretold
Another NY DM banger following the same philosophy as Pyrexia. I'm a sucker for this sound and would love more recs in the style. |
| 5 | | Missing Link (USA-NY) Watch Me Bleed
Someone described this band as "If face tats were a band" and I can't stop thinking about that. It's so fitting lol. Fun dumb beatdown hc w a little hip hop influence. These guys are somewhat of a "supergroup" w members of Pain of Truth, Internal Bleeding and Recon. Definitely not for the weak!!! |
| 6 | | New World Man Peeling Through The Skin
My favorite new crossover thrash band is back with two new songs and showing no signs of slowing down. I really hope they have an LP on the way because this exemplifies everything I love about this band. Hard riffs, a little bit of wackiness and charisma, abrupt tempo changes that don't compromise the songs. I can't recommend this band enough to my fellow thrashers. |
| 7 | | FKA Twigs Eusexua
FKA twigs imo is one of the most consistent pop artists in recent memory and Eusexua is no different. I really appreciate how she made this album more accessible without compromising her identity as an artist. Really one of the best in the game right now. |
| 8 | | Floorpunch Twin Killing
Possibly the hardest straight edge hc band of all time and with no metal influence to be found! Just 20 minutes of getting your ass kicked |
| 9 | | Misfits Earth A.D./Wolf's Blood
A classic album that has been getting more spins as I get my partner into hardcore, punk, and metal. The definition of timeless and replayable. |
| 10 | | Mac Dre Young Black Brotha: The Album
G funk legend that sadly was gone too soon. Mac Dre definitely belongs in the conversation of West Coast greats and I am very excited to continue diving into his discography. |
| 11 | | Cradle of Filth Cruelty and the Beast
I used to find black metal kind of corny and lame but have been reassessing my views over the past few years to not totally write it off. I'm glad I have because bands like Cradle of Filth are so sick. Ambitious and adventurous, I have really found a recent love for Dusk, Midian, and this album. It almost seems crazy just to call them a black metal band because they are so much more. I fully embrace the goth cheese and look forward to digging into more. |
| 12 | | He Is Legend I Am Hollywood
A scene core classic I had overlooked for years and was put back on my radar thanks to user frozencarl. Very fun southern-tinged metalcore with a bit more focus on the post hardcore elements. These were the glory days of the post hc genre imo and this brings me back to a simpler time in my life. All killer no filler album that is worth of any and all praise. |
| 13 | | Skinless Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead
Possibly the hardest mosh of any DM album. Criminal that I slept on it this long |
| 14 | | Wormed Omegon
I thought I was gonna hate this cuz the vocals were so over the top but once I got a couple tracks in I fuckin love it. The gurgle vocals honestly help elevate the weird cosmic atmosphere they were going for. Also man the drummer is an animal. Who needs Blood Incantation when you got this |
| 15 | | Collateral (USA-FL) We Still Know
Hardcore punk band from my hometown playing fast hardcore punk similar to Lockin Out era bands like Mental and Stop & Think. Just 7 min of fast in your face hardcore, nothing more, nothing less. Makes me miss the days of The Talent Farm and getting to see the local bands regularly smash it and in some cases outshine touring acts. Don't sleep on them! |
| 16 | | Dario Zenker Tube Travel
I always appreciate how Dario is committed to putting out more functional types of dance music in creative ways and this EP is no exception. I def prefer the first two songs over the last two but all around this is solid dance floor ready techno that you can't help but move too. Tube Travel is an instant banger |
| 17 | | Living Sacrifice The Hammering Process
Really hard groovy Christcore that makes every band that came after them look soft. I really feel crazy for sleeping on these guys for so long cuz they check every box for the classic metalcore sound for me. Jam this and spin kick in your home. |
