Top 30 Albums - 2024

I haven't made a list in a while, so I might as well go ahead and share with you my top 30, be gentle.
1Charli XCX
Brat

This could be the best pop record of the decade and unquestionably the best of this year. I've always loved Charli but Brat feels like the pinnacle of her journey as an artist. There are no bigger bops than 365, Everything Is Romantic, Sympathy is a Knife or Guess in 2024.
2State Faults
Children of the Moon

It is a faultless record (no pun intended) and its peaks are higher than anything from 2024. I will never forget the transition from No Gospel to Transfiguration.
3Foxing
Foxing

An absolute curveball of a record, I've always loved them but I wasn't expecting them to go this hard.
4Jamie xx
In Waves

Club music excellence and a sampling masterclass
5Opeth
The Last Will and Testament

I am rarely objective when it comes to Opeth, but listening to this for the first time reminded me of when I blasted Watershed on my shitty speakers back in 2009
6Lip Critic
Hex Dealer

Not everyone was on board with this thing, but I love its devotion to complete fuckery. I expect greatness from this band in the future.
7Magdalena Bay
Imaginal Disk

Gorgeous production, great songs and sheer creativity on display, it hits all the right spots for me.
8Floating Points
Cascade

If anything, 2024 was a phenomenal year for club music and Cascade is further proof of that.
9The Cure
Songs of a Lost World

To have a new The Cure album that's on par with some of their best work in 2024 was not on my bingo card. Beautiful from start to finish.
10Full of Hell
Coagulated Bliss

I love whatever the fuck this thing is.
11Vampire Weekend
Only God Was Above Us

Vampire Weekend's most mature record, not only in terms of lyricism and themes but as a complete work of art. No skips on this one.
12Chelsea Wolfe
She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She

The most hypnotic record I've heard in a while, it feels like a trance (the good kind) and I need to listen to it from top to bottom every time I play it.
13Geordie Greep
The New Sound

Listening to this makes me think that Black Midi was holding the Greepster back. I'm glad he went solo.
14Kendrick Lamar
GNX

I'm a big Kendrick whore ngl
15Blood Incantation
Absolute Elsewhere

Gargantuan in every possible way, took me multiple listens to get a grasp of how massive and ambitious this album is.
16Julia Holter
Something in the Room She Moves

I expected a better reception for this, but most people just forgot about it. Maybe I'm a bit biased when it comes to Holter's music, but it is what it is.
17Godspeed You! Black Emperor
No Title as of 13 Feb 2024 28,340 Dead

Free Palestine.
18Chat Pile
Cool World

As nihilistic and dirty as I thought it would be.
19Discovery Zone
Quantum Web

Lovely little electro/pop/ambient throwback, been quite addicted to it for the past month or so.
20Ulcerate
Cutting the Throat of God

It's Ulcerate being Ulcerate, for better or worse. For all of us who like the band, it's a great thing, but it might be time to shake things up a little bit. Still rips, though.
21Caoilfhionn Rose
Constellation

Beautiful instrumentation, gorgeous textures and a lot of meat to sink our teeth in.
22Lupe Fiasco
Samurai

I love how straight to the point this is, like it just comes and goes in a heartbeat, but stays long after it's finished. The production in particular is some of the best in terms of hip-hop this year.
23Ellis
No Place That Feels Like

Probably some of the most melancholic shit I've heard all year, a beautiful combination of folk and emo that delivers the goods.
24Everything Everything
Mountainhead

This band just continues to deliver and I can't get enough of their brand of freaky, danceable pop.
25Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Challengers OST

It rarely gets as iconic as this score, and the movie would crumble without it.
26Kali Uchis
Orquídeas

Recently got into this one and I'm completely entranced by it. Some of the finest, catchiest pop of the year.
27Maruja
Connla's Well

Not an LP, but still just as great. Can't wait for them to release a full album.
28Viva Belgrado
Cancionero de los Cielos

La Dispute but in Spanish, good stuff.
29Mabe Fratti
Sentir que no sabes

Mabe Fratti continues her weird, incredible journey into alternative/experimental music, but this time with a bit more of a hook.
30NAILS
Every Bridge Burning

Fast, unrelenting, angry and tremendously underrated.
