| | Fave 1983 Albums | | 10 | | Elton John Too Low For Zero
I won’t lie, I’m mostly just a sucker for the stand-out singles here. From what I Know 80’s Elton is pretty disappointing, and I imagine this is as in touch with the sound as he gets. At worst these songs are inoffensive, and at best they’re killer earworms.
I’m Still Standing, Too Low For Zero, I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues
3.8/5 | | 9 | | Yukihiro Takahashi Tomorrow's Just Another Day
Great production, very cool new wave/city pop middleground explored here. Incredible B-Side
Kagerou, Are you receiving me?, Good Time
4/5 | | 8 | | Republika Nowe sytuacje
Punk rock - with flutes!!!
4/5 | | 7 | | Yellow Magic Orchestra Naughty Boys
Some of the most straight-forward stuff they’ve released. Still in touch with the time, Naughty Boys is a wonderful exploration of the ‘synth’ in synth-pop.
Kimi ni mune kyun, Focus, Kai-koh, Lotus Love
4.2/5 | | 6 | | Divinyls Desperate
Before that big self-love hit in the early 90s, Divinyls were absolutely eating it up making new-wave jams. Desperate is their debut, and it has an absolutely killer first half. I should mention there are a few different versions of this floating around depending on the country of release, and the American one has the monumental triple threat of ‘Boys In Town’, ‘Only Lonely’ and ‘Science Fiction’ as its open.
4.2/5 | | 5 | | Iron Maiden Piece Of Mind
Favorite Maiden I’ve heard so far. Each track is some kinda scorcher.
Where Eagles Dare, Flight of Icarus, The Trooper
4.4/5 | | 4 | | Aztec Camera High Land, Hard Rain
37 minutes of jangle pop bliss. Sounds bright and sunny - can warm you up on the coldest of days.
Oblivious, Walk Out To Winter, We Could Send Letters, Pillar To Post
4.4/5 | | 3 | | Dio Holy Diver
A heavy metal blueprint. Every track’s a stunner.
Holy Diver, Gypsy, Rainbow In The Dark
4.5/5 | | 2 | | Oingo Boingo Good for Your Soul
Wacky circus punk music, but they’ve really polished it up this time around. In addition to having such a rambunctious ska-punk energy, the bands lyrics still have that slightly sinister edge and there are still hooks to be found.
Who Do You Want To Be Today?, No Spill Blood, Nothing Bad Ever Happens To Me, Little Guns
4.5/5 | | 1 | | Big Country The Crossing
Big Country - The Crossing
Celtic influenced stadium rock. The e-bow is this bands deadly weapon of choice, and it carries them through their first three albums. Great highlights in Close Action, 1000 Stars, and of course that worldwide hit, In A Big Country.

11.23.24 | Killer choice for #1. Not a duff track on it! Lost Patrol and Porrohman really took me someplace different when I was a kid and heard them, as did the rest of the album.
3, 4, 5( m/), and 10 are also great picks. | Futures

11.23.24 | Good picks on 10, 3 and 1.
There are other albums I adore in that year like New Order, Depeche Mode, Naked Eyes, etc. But it's your list. | gryndstone
11.25.24 | I've listened to Brotherhood and Power Corruption Lies, but they didn't click as a whole with me :( still gonna run through their discog at some point, they have enough banger singles yeah | SteakByrnes
11.25.24 | Where does Synchronicity by The Police rank in this | gryndstone
