Must Hear Before '09
These are not a best of in '08, these are just recent albums that I've been digging and believe that people should give these albums a listen |
1 | | Maybeshewill Not For Want Of Trying
If you enjoy the blend of electronica and (heavy) post rock, this is my favorite band that does it, next to 65daysofstatic |
2 | | If These Trees Could Talk If These Trees Could Talk EP
These guys play hard and heavy post rock and make themselves stand out in the midst of many painfully average post rock bands, if you dig pg.lost, Caspian, Russian Circles and others of their kind, this is definitely a worth-while listen if you enjoy the post rock genre |
3 | | The Flashbulb Soundtrack To A Vacant Life
One of 2008's best albums. I never heard of this guy until I saw the craz on sputnik, A 31-track-full-coarse-plate full of music |
4 | | The Appleseed Cast Peregrine
These guys are a great indie rock band who blends experimental and post rock elements into their sound, Peregrine is a great album, I haven't been able to get into their older stuff though |
5 | | Shels Sea of the Dying Dhow
They combine hard rock, progressive metal, and a bit of post rock into their sound, their debut album is hard, heavy and emotional listen |
6 | | Radiohead Amnesiac
Most definitely Radiohead's most underrated album, most likely caused by the release in the wake of Kid A, but this is no Kid B, even I initially didn't like it the first few times I heard it, but it grew on me and is in my top 3 Radiohead albums |
7 | | Portishead Dummy
Recently got into these guys, they define the word "chill" when it comes to music, one of the most definitive bands in the trip-hop genre, and might I add Beth Gibbons has a very beautiful voice |
8 | | pg.lost It's Not Me, It's You!
Any post rock fan on sputnik will know these guys, probably the best post rock band of '08, these guys separated themselves from the pack of repetitive post rock copy cats |
9 | | Oceansize Effloresce
This epic-five-member progressive rock band blends elements of hard rock, post rock, alternative metal, and electronic, thus fitting the title of their name. Their debut album is a long and massive listen. It may take a few listens to completely get into them due to the complexity of each song. Building off influences ranging from Pink Floyd to Mogwai to Tool, they are truly innovative to modern rock music (and one of my favorite bands) |
10 | | Muse Origin of Symmetry
Not much more can be said about this master piece. It is arguably Muse's best album (at least on sputnik), if you haven't listened to this album, then shame on you...and buy it |
11 | | Minus The Bear Highly Refined Pirates
With ridiculous song titles, this indie rock/math rock band defines what a "fun" band to listen to is. This album is a good starting point if you haven't heard anything from them. |
