09.29.24 | As far as advice, I'd say what's most important is being honest with yourself. I am personally of the belief I won't like any job I have, but I know I'm a good worker and can do a variety of things. Think about the things you value most in the workplace/in a career and try to make the moves towards that for the long-term. Definitely will suck at first and may take some time/patience, but your hard work will pay off. I have my fingers crossed for an accounting internship next spring and landed an interview w a big local firm next month and I have no prior experience before this year. Keep ya head up gang! |
Sinternet
09.29.24 | i'll add that you don't necessarily have to do something you love, but something that makes you feel worthwhile and that you're contributing to society or your passions. i worked in big generic retail stores and whilst they were less stressful and paid around the same as my current job, i couldn't cope with the fact i didn't feel like what i was doing was worthwhile or helping anyone. now i feel like i'm actually making a difference and helping kids who often have really difficuult backgrounds, so no matter how hard some days are i go home with at least a little sense of fulfillment. |

09.29.24 | I graduated as a medical doctor, but was lucky enough to get a phd, so I quit the shitty job at the clinic and went to a university to teach and do research. Working in academia is the best if you secure a permanent position. You can (mostly) manage your time freely, get to work with (mostly) enthusiastic students on (mostly) exciting research topics, and the money is okay. I’m aware that it varies from country to country and uni to uni though. And the start can be rough anywhere if your supervisor is an asshole, that needs to be survived.
I agree that money shouldn’t be of high priority, you need to find a good balance between satisfying your intellectual needs and having a relaxed private life. |

09.29.24 | I work basically as a poolman or rent out beach chairs, very basic job with average pay but the company's pretty good, everyone's mostly friendly and chill. I did graduate in economics but my big error was coasting through college without really knowing what I want to be. Now I'm kinda paying the price for it, having little real experience in my branch so having a hard time finding an actual steady job. I guess that's the way of life for procrastinators like myself. |

Jokes aside, I got myself into a shit ton of debt when I was a complete alcoholic. Working with a debt relief company rn, should have it all paid off in 14 months. So I’m a barback 4 days a week and bartend the fifth day. Money is decent
After that tho I plan on learning a trade. Of which I’m not sure yet, but I’ve been working food service for 10 of the last 11 years and I just can’t do it anymore. Just another year and change and the options will hopefully open up for me.
I gotta say tho, I do like being on my feet. I was going to college to be an accountant but it took a year of that for me to just realize I’d fucking blow my brains out sitting in an office all day. Not to mention the fact that I walk on average 9 miles a day so I know I’d get fat as shit at a desk job. |

And all without an engineering degree lmao. Wish I got that engineer pay but I still make out pretty well all things considered.
