I just read an article where it said this about it: “Darkthrone can only apologize for this tragic choice of words,” Fenriz and Nocturno Culto wrote in an apology letter that revealed the anti-Semitism in Norwegian society. “In Norway the word ‘Jew’ is used all the time to mean something that is out of order. If something breaks down, if something is stupid, etc… When we wrote ‘Jewish behavior’ in our previous press statement, we could have easily have (sic) written, according to the Norwegian language ‘stupid’ instead.” The band continued by stating it was not political in any way and that none of its albums had “contained any racism/fascism or Nazi slant at all.” When the controversy continued to rage in certain circles, Darkthrone included the following message in their 1995 album Panzerfaust: “Darkthrone is certainly not a Nazi band nor a political band. Those of you who still might think so, you can lick Mother Mary’s asshole in eternity.” Not the greatest apology either (still some anti-semitic vibes) aha. Tho maybe to my own fault, I kind of give Darkthrone the benefit of the doubt. They've had a good track record since that apology, so I'd like to assume they're not actually racists. Hopefully aha.

garas 09.04.24	#19 is anything but not quality BM. Also, you can find tons of other deadly sins in lots of bands and musicians. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to defend NSBM or some shit, but the concept of "acceptable" black metal is... weird. Like, 'Fuck The Universe' by Craft contains lots of hateful lyrics too. I get the idea of the filtering, though.

Gameofmetal 09.05.24	Pre sure we're just talking about not being nazis or other assorted racists, not sorting for every single possible affront, gar. We all get that it's a transgressive art form. That said, there's plenty of normal guy black metal bands.

I think this list should have these bands (whose discographies are quite consistent): Violet Cold, Crow Black Sky, Elderwind, Windir, Saor, Alcest, Perihelion, Raventale, Nelecc, Shylmagoghnar, Midnight Odyssey. I'm sure I could list a few more, but these popped right up in my head.

Gameofmetal 09.06.24	Alcest should be good, Neige has talked a million times about his association with Peste Noire being when he was younger and dumber and he's not about that. Andy Marshall (Saor) had a dogwhistly ultranationalist band signed to an nsbm label back in the late 2010s but disbanded it and seems to have distanced himself from that kind of content.

NightOnDrunkMountain 09.08.24	Really great list. A directly anti-NS album that fits here is the debut by Thlipsis from last year. Addaura / Fauna should fit too. Search for "The Dark Skies Above Us" who have released some anti-NSBM compilations with a lot of lesser-known quality material. Suhnopfer sure, the project by the guy who played drums in Peste Noire right?
