08.28.24 | Hmmm Deviant (wherever he is) says Finest Hour by Submotion Orchestra is a dubstep album (comes off as mainly downtempo to me but what do I know?)
So I guess that for dubstep |
budgie
08.28.24 | skramz is fucking awful and everyone who likes it sucks
except that one album which is kind of okay |
Calc
08.28.24 | submotion is dub not dubstep |

cylinder
08.28.24 | normally i kinda hate post-grunge/radio rock/buttrock kind of stuff, but i gotta admit i love Matchbox 20, especially the hits from their first album and some really underrated deep cuts from Mad Season like the title track, Rest Stop, Black & White People, and Crutch |

08.28.24 | "that black and purple one?"
Pretty sure you're referring to The Moon Is a Dead World |

08.28.24 | Hate djent but Caligula's Horse includes some djentiness in their sound and they do it absolutely amazingly. One of my favourite bands too. As for actual djent, I did quite enjoy Obsidian by Northlane. Not an album I go back to often but it is a fun time. |

08.28.24 | Grindcore usually isn't my thing, but Discordance Axis/Gridlink/anything Jon Chang related all rule. |

08.29.24 | Yeah my face looks like I’ve stood in front of a few too many huge sound systems over the years for sure (and has played on them too) |

08.29.24 | Nice turnpike troubadours shoot dedes. I’m not huge on country either but that band is excellent |

08.29.24 | it's funny that we do this. do you think it's that the albums/artists are just so good that they transcend the usual trappings of their genre?
some things like Theocracy I feel like I sorta get my power metal fill with a few good albums that have already established themselves in my taste.
perhaps it's a nostalgia thing, where I've grown out of it, but come back to some artists in particular. or maybe I just haven't explored the genre enough to find other things I really connect with!
another one I thought of for me is melodic death metal - usually not really into it but I love TBDM |
Demon of the Fall
08.29.24 | "Hmmm Deviant (wherever he is) says Finest Hour by Submotion Orchestra is a dubstep album (comes off as mainly downtempo to me but what do I know?)"
I'd say it's mostly downtempo / trip-hop with nu-jazz elements, aye. Maybe a tad tho. Great album either way |
el_newg
08.29.24 | appreciate everyone's input as well ^_^
oh and traditional black metal I never really listen to except Darkthrone, but even then, I prefer their newer material over the unholy trinity |
Demon of the Fall
08.29.24 | Persefone - Core, for symphonic prog death ridiculousness that no other band can touch
The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand, for doomgaze generally
Rainbow - Rising, for classic hard rock / heavy metal
It depends how specific you want to be because I have loads. I have this weird thing whereby extra special examples of what I want from a genre / sound render everything else useless |
Demon of the Fall
08.29.24 | guess I love that 'Sophie' album too. I couldn't name anything else remotely similar I ever return too (file under: 'deconstructed club' I guess) |
budgie
08.29.24 | you should listen to more black metal man |

08.30.24 | "another one I thought of for me is melodic death metal - usually not really into it but I love TBDM"
Tbf, they're also on the heavier, more classic-DM side of melodeath. That's why I love their work so much |
