My overlooked second sputversary

Hey everybody. My second sputversary happened on 2 July. I missed it because life has been absolutely crazy but I wanted to take a minute to share some thoughts.
1Arooj Aftab
Night Reign

First I have to say that I genuinely like all of you.
2Fuubutsushi
Meridians

I wish I had joined Sputnik earlier. I realize it was a harsher landscape ten years ago, but it seems somewhat bittersweet that I’m trying to grow as a member of this community while the site seems to be slowly withering away. I don’t know of any place where people connect over music the same as we do here and it’s the reason I try to stay connected and also why I celebrate this site.
3Infant Island
Obsidian Wreath

I honestly didn’t think I would get promoted to being a Staff writer this year but I’m not going to lie it’s been a low-key (almost childlike) goal I’ve had since I was maybe sixteen. Again, I know it’s a different landscape now than it was back in the day, but I’m really grateful for having the opportunity to write and contribute to this website in that capacity.
4Dua Lipa
Radical Optimism

Honestly doing this has been such a great way for me to sometimes take a break from the grind. You guys can probably imagine that I live a pretty full life (and I don’t even have kids…), so being able to do something that has nothing to really do with anything and enjoy new music while I’m at it has been a blessing.
5Boundaries
Death Is Little More

In the last year I’ve tried to push my boundaries with regards to the genres I write about as well as what I listen to. I’ve now dabbled in scramz, lots of jazz, Latin music, more pop, gaze, etc. I love music, but I can’t write music, and having a hobby like this is probably the closest I get to actually getting out and doing just that.
6Bloom (AUS)
Maybe in Another Life

Finally, I wanted to encourage us to try and figure out how to reverse the decay of this site. I can’t really say this is an open letter to mx or something but if there were a way to donate, participate in programming, funding, etc., I’m sure me and many others would do something to not only keep this site alive but participate in its growth. Anyway, happy sputversary to me. Love you all.
