Rec Me Something 'Summery'
1Moon In June (JPN)
ロマンと水色の街

It is finally somewhat resembling summer in the UK right now so I need some music to go with it.
2The Strokes
The New Abnormal

Not really sure what makes an album 'summery' so I will let you decide what that means. I suppose something bright, catchy and warm. Pop Punk, Indie Rock/Pop, Shoegaze idk.
3BOaT (JPN)
Listening Suicidal

Can't see metal music being particularly 'summery' but if you know any definitely rec some, but the previous mentioned genres are preferred.

So yeah, give me an album and I'll write my thoughts on it. Probably won't do one per day like last time I did a rec list as that didn't exactly go as planned, but I will eventually get round to everyone's recs.

Btw, listening to 151a rn and how does this not have a review. It slaps. Scary how much music I get from Rick and Morty.

This is exactly the sort of the thing I am looking for in the indie rock direction. Kinda sounds like a less gazey Ovlov and Cursetheknife. The guitars have some tasty crescendos and really bright melodies. Pain is a banger of a slacker rock track and Cut From the Vine and Naked In the River With the Creator are some really unique, moody and atmospheric tracks for this sort of album.

Only heard their song Frontier Psychologist before this so a fairly chilled out album was not what I was expecting. The album did have a bit of a dip in the middle for me and a lot here was almost too chill so the album is really propped up by its highlights imo. But the highlights are really fucking good. The stretch from The Wozard of Iz and the closer is where the album really came together for me. Also, I am pretty sure this is the first hip hop album I have ever listened to. Should probably try more out in the future.

Yeah, this is fine but definitely peaked with its opener. I got the summery vibe at first but the bloat and unnecessarily long track lengths really started to take away from it.

Love me some British folk music. Some beautiful vocals and instrumentals for sure. The Queen of Hearts and Bonny May will be tracks I will definitely return to. I do wish I liked this more though. It is great for what it is but it never really does anything truly exciting, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I suppose. But yeah, this is just on the precipice on what I would call a great record.

Love finding albums that surprise me. Was expecting a typical shoegaze album but this is basically My Bloody Valentine with lots of math rock influence, so dare I say better. Many weird moments here so I am excited to come back to this. Feel like my rating will completely change next time I listen to it, whether it gets even better or I start to notice its flaws.

Wasn't expecting there to be a violinist on this album. Glad there was though as it was by far my favourite part of this album. Some very strong hooks and this album starts off with a bang with Awakening, Surface of the Sun and Always Sun but after that it starts to get very predictable and average to me. There was too much pop and not enough punk for my tastes. Still, there is a late album highlight with Rivertown Blues. A track I will certainly be listening to a lot in the coming weeks. So yeah, good album even if it isn't always quite my taste.

To be honest, I was expecting this to be really hard to sit through. Not a big pop fan at all, so I doubt K-pop would be all too different. While this wasn't hard to sit through at all, it still wasn't my thing and I was pretty indifferent to it all. Bloom was the closest song I got to straight up enjoying here.

Oooh, this is something that I did not know I was looking for. Very chilled out and clean math rock with a smooth jazz-esque saxophone. Some amazing drumming here and bass lines are so groovy, especially in Teleblister. This is just relaxing with some extremely hypnotic melodies. My rating of this will more than likely increase.

Some nice atmospheric doom metal with a few amazing riffs spread across each song. Some tracks here are definitely more engaging than others, but this is an extremely solid 40 minutes of instrumental doom metal, which is a genre I typically struggle with. Love the more melodic sections and the epic crescendo at the end of Lisboa.

Does fell too instagram guitaristy at times with the tacky electronic elements and the super clean tone but the playing here is certainly solid with some really great mathy melodies that do evoke the extremely summery feeling of the beautiful album cover. Not the biggest fan of the tracks with vocals, they just weren't my cup of tea in the vocal style.

Rec'd by YoYoMancuso

Yep, Thriller slaps. Its reputations has certainly not been unearned. It has 8 of the best and catchiest pop songs since the 80s with Jacksons amazing vocal performance. Title track, Beat It, Billie Jean and Human Nature are especially great tunes and will be the ones I revisit (already knew I would revisit Billie Jean as it was the only track here I listened to before). Was not a fan of The Girl Is Mine though. Does not hold a candle to a single other song here. Hope that is not a hot take.

Started out really digging this. Some really catchy alternative rock here. But the longer this went on, the more formulaic this sounded to me. Despite that, the bangers here are still bangers and there are some great stuff within the latter half such as Motorcycle Drive By and God of Wine. The album lacks any surprises but does deliver in the odd alt rock jam. Don't quite get the acclaimed reviews for this. I am guessing nostalgia, which is fair enough.

Eternal Summer, Catch Me and Deep Wide Ocean are absolute jams. Plus the vocals here are so good. There is a lot here that is just fine though doing very little to stand out but I do feel like this album is a grower so maybe I am wrong there. Also, this sounds a lot like Florence + The Machines which explains why I like this a lot too.

This is so different to Listening Suicidal which has been on rotation for me since I discovered it so I think I will need a couple more listens to really understand my opinion on it. But so far, I can say that I really enjoyed this. It is more progressive and ambitious with added instruments such as the violin in the amazing opener. I am writing this a few hours after listening to it as my internet cut out but I don't remember much from this. It lacks the instantaneous hooks that Listening Suicidal had. Obviously, this probably won't be problem in a few more listens and I really enjoyed the album anyway but my current rating might be lower than it will be in the near future.

Almost every track here is a banger with its own, unique hook. Very creative whilst still retaining the catchiness. It is perfect for summer and I will be jamming this a lot.

Overall, a really pleasant album with a nice relaxing atmosphere. Some nice moments of experimentation to grab your attention every now and again in tracks such as Anywhere In Spacetime and Ya Ya Breathe, but there was little here that truly grabbed me. While this album didn't exactly have anything 'bad', it basically had nothing, or at least had very little, that was interesting. It was competently played but this was it for me. The sound here is too stale to support a 52 minute album. Sorry but I wasn't a fan of this one.

Has a lot of great riffs. Adrenaline and A Tragic Instinct slaps due to the riffs alone. You is a nice track too and Confession has a solid solo. However, this has quite a bit of the tropes of modern metalcore bands that I aren't quite my cup of tea. Practically every track here has a cheesy, over-the-top chorus with some moments feeling overproduced. Still, this undeniably has good moments and it certainly doesn't lack in the riff department. Just doesn't quite align with what I like in my metalcore.

Rec'd by Clumseee

The vocals really ruined this for me. Like, you do not need to go this 100% the entire fucking time, especially when that raw yell is so shit and whiny. Be more dynamic, and at least use that yell at the most emo part of the song aka the crescendo. His cleans are fine at least but he doesn't use them nearly as much as he should. To make the yells worse somehow, they are pitch corrected. That is the last thing this album, or any midwest emo album needs. However, the instrumentals here really keeps the album from reaching below a 2 rating. Some really cool, catchy riffs are present, so it is a real shame the vocalist here decides to play his weakest hand 90% of the fucking time.

Cool album with some solid ska tunes sprinkled throughout. I just feel like this has too much filler. At most this should have been around 40 minutes, not 69 minutes. Reggae is a genre I know nothing about and going into new genres tends to be quite daunting so I am happy to say that I was digging this quite a bit. This is mainly due to Gregory Issacs incredibly smooth vocals. The vocals them self are just so summery and relaxing. Instrumental wise, this is very samey throughout so as the album went on, the more the excitement of a new sound wore off. But yeah, all tunes here are extremely pleasant even if not a lot here stands out.

Love the mixture of acoustic guitar centred folk with the electronic soundscapes. The standouts here are fantastic. Dye the Water Green, A tout a l'heure, Raincoat and You Won't Remember... are some extremely soothing and summery tunes and I will certainly be returning to them. There are a few moments of experimentation here, but I found most of them to be a miss (Look at Orion!) and sometimes a major miss (You). Really interesting sound here. It has a nice mix of reggae, ska, punk and classic rock although at points it comes across as a tad disjointed. This guy has a really nice voice. Wasn't expecting such a smooth voice in a hip-hop album, but I am pleasantly surprised. The album itself is fine. The soul/funk instrumentals, again, are very smooth but it does feel like this is the albums only trick. For a double album, this isn't good. There is a lot of bloat here. I really enjoyed this, particularly the instrumentals. Remi Wolf's vocals certainly give extremely powerful moments to the point it is hard to believe this was a live performance but at the same time, her voice does verge on being annoying at some points. This was interesting. The mixture of death metal, doom metal and shoegaze to my knowledge is a rare one. I will say I much preferred the shoegaze elements of this bands sound. It led to some truly beautiful moments, such as a good chunk of the final track. Liked the doomy riffs here too. The vocals, on the other hand, was something I was not a fan of. This style of screams/growls annoy me and really detract from my enjoyment of the music, which is a shame as there is some truly great stuff here. An album with a whole range of emotions with a solid, bleak atmosphere. Never thought an indie pop record could sound so haunting. Also watched the film for this and it is a weird one. I loved the first act but once it went back in time, I kinda got a bit lost and I only really caught back up once the film ended so a rewatch is definitely needed. Despite that, the music (Both the OS and Debussy stuff) and the cinematography was so powerful at portraying the emotions of these characters, that I was still sucked in anyway. Definitely a bleak and confusing watch, but it was incredibly interesting as well.
