Sacramento Hip Hop Exploratory
12 Black Basstuds
Born A Basstud

Members: Young Dre D, Young Bowleggs

Dusky and and funky, Dre D and Bowlegg's put together a Sactown classic for their sole album in 1994. Dre D's slinky flow pairs perfectly with Bowlegg's more forward-dashing cadence over Bumpin' T's creeping production. The mood is dark and warm, and the pace is generally slow.

Troubled Mind

If all of the aforementioned adjectives applied to Born A Basstud, then triple them for Dre D's first solo album Troubled Mind. That album is so murky and muggy, and so unique, that it's especially disappointing he went with a much more generic sound on subsequent albums.
