05.23.24 | album placement does not reflect on their quality / the most basic bitch S-Tier ik ik |
GmemberKills
05.23.24 | I haven't seen all these, but man Sopranos not 5/5 and Sex and The City in a tier above Six Feet Under? idk |

05.23.24 | saw one season of GOT and it was w/e
only seen a few of these but deadwood, curb, and sopranos are def my top 3 |

05.23.24 | oof controversial list
anyway,
i'd dock Sex and the City (even though i actually like it) and the Deuce by a tier and raise Watchmen, Boardwalk Empire, The Young Pope, and definitely Veep by at least one
but i may just be biased. these shows surely aren't for everyone, but i liked them a lot (BE and Veep especially) |
Winesburgohio
05.23.24 | GOT egregious show that also negatively impacted the cultural sphere in a way we're still feeling the ripple of, is my reasoning.
@GmemberKills lol genuine mistakes! timeline got fucked up. i cannot countenance the implication that SatC is of lesser quality, however |

AlexKzillion
05.23.24 | GOT at least gotta be b-tier even with the final seasons
about to finish the wire, s-tier feels accurate
barry and white lotus a-tier feels right
i'd prob have euphoria in at least c-tier i think the first season is pretty great even if the second is kinda ass |
tectactoe
05.23.24 | All I care about is Wire and Sopranos in S-Tier. Wouldn't have been mad to see Curb there, too, but A-Tier is more than acceptable. I actually haven't seen a lot of these, honestly, never been too big of a TV buff. I did watch a few episodes of GoT and could not get into it, though. |
Ryus
05.23.24 | not hbo but have you seen mad men tec |
Winesburgohio
05.23.24 | i think Succession being in B reflects the exceptional strengths of the shows listed before it. i was kinda surprised too but what are you gonna do with shows of that caliber?
corny way of explaining it but I feel like Deadwood and The Wire hit my brain my heart and my soul. The Sopranos feeds the soul and brain but not the heart. therein lies the distinction. and I mean The Wire is just so, so good. also a huuuuuge fan of Homicide: Life on the Streets |

05.23.24 | I really liked GOT through the first 4 or 5 seasons then it dipped and then the final season happened (still haven't even bothered watching it lol) |

05.23.24 | six feet under may have been close to s-tier for me back in the day but upon recent viewing it hasn't really aged well. still a great show but A or maybe B for me now |
TheManMachine
05.23.24 | boardwalk empire gotta be at least B for me. though the intro is D |

05.23.24 | shout out to True Blood being in D Tier. I remember being a Teenager and really loving the first season, then it just went to like almost complete shit after the second season. |

05.23.24 | I didn't watch the last (or two) seasons of My Brilliant Friend, but it was excellent.

05.23.24 | normally I'd defend the first four or five seasons of GoT but every time I return I can only make it a few episodes in before moving onto something else
Also agree Westworld isn't anything spectacular |

05.23.24 | Band of Brothers that low? Ouch |
Scheumke
05.23.24 | Chernobyl in B
Rome in C
Band of Brother in C
The Last of us in C
Damn man. Is this list from personal enjoyment or qualification of quality?
I can get into the argument for GOT (though I personally love the effect it had on the genre), but the four above are all masterclasses in what they're trying to do imo. |
Gyromania
05.23.24 | i can't tell if this is a troll or not but GoT being dead last is hilarious. one of the worst endings to a show ever but dead last is fkn crazy; first 4 seasons are pure fire |
trilo
05.23.24 | true detective s1 needs to be split from s3 and moved to S while s3 moved to B. itβs significantly better than s3. succession to S too. prob move chernobyl there but A would work too. good list otherwise |
Gyromania
05.23.24 | roman sending his father a dick pic while sitting in the same conference automatically puts Succession in S tier
|

05.23.24 | sex and the city taking top spot at A tier and 5th highest overall is also wild stuff. that show is some hot garbage |

05.23.24 | Would like to see Perry mason and Insecure on this list |

05.23.24 | nice. obviously its extremely acclaimrd but i think its somewhat underrated in the sense that it should be considered up there with the sopranos/the wire as the greatest tv dramas. obviously not as βsexyβ cuz its not about gangsters/crime but in terms of writing/characters i think it is one of the best
actually scratch that it has jon hamm so its the sexiest by far |

05.23.24 | Bruh Six Feet Under is God Tier
I'd also bump Eastbound & Down up but I know that's a very acquired taste |
Gyromania
05.23.24 | the sopranos has to be the single most overrated show of all time. not a bad show by any means, but i just couldn't be bothered to keep watching it after 3 seasons. one of those shows i think i'd have appreciated much more had i not watched it when it aired, not in 2022 for the first time. it's very noticeably dated |

05.23.24 | Leftovers is the greatest piece of media ever created but good list other than that
oh and got is too low. Yeah, last two seasons sucked but letβs not forget how great the first four were. Like I know a trash ending can really fuck up a series but damn when that show was good it was fucking GOOD |
Gyromania
05.23.24 | i mean sopranos is clearly an objectively great show. well written, well acted, well edited. i just don't get why for so many people it's the #1 best show ever.
the leftovers was an excellent show all around but idk how i feel about it looking back. i think it maybe could have done more than it did. the finale was so good though, i was really surprised by that |
Gyromania
05.23.24 | "oh and got is too low. Yeah, last two seasons sucked but letβs not forget how great the first four were. Like I know a trash ending can really fuck up a series but damn when that show was good it was fucking GOOD"
exactly. it was once at the top of the food chain and for damn good reason. i think house of the dragon has potential to match it. the first season was honestly as good as peak thrones imo. prob a hot take, but that show really surprised me after going in with fairly low expectations. |
fogza
05.23.24 | For me I think I've hit my saturation point for media about gangsters so I couldn't bring myself to watch the sopranos. Maybe one day I'll check it out |

05.23.24 | Part of the appeal of The Sopranos for me is definitely the characters. Almost everyone in the show is a piece of shit but they do such a good job at developing them, you can't help but want to see them succeed even at their most fucked up. House of the Dragon to me is hardcore trash and I can never understand the praise its received. People who read the books say its pretty true to form tho so that may be part of it. |

05.23.24 | based deadwood placement |

05.23.24 | Mad Men is amazing indeed. And I agree that it is tiring to see The Sopranos always regarded as the pinnacle of TV shows, and yes, it is really good and monumental, groundbreaking and a source of inspiration for any serious modern TV show... etc, but there are so many more things that I personally enjoy more than it. And the amount of men that I know that non unironically see Tony as a reference man in their life..........
I was way more emotionally invested in The Wire than The Sopranos. |

05.23.24 | I was definitely interested in the premise of the first season of The Leftovers, and there were some good trippy episodes later on, but I could never really get into it, and always found it a bit too messy with so many ideas. |
IsisScript80
05.23.24 | ^ I found it superb, initially... wavered somewhat, still kept an amazingly high quality though. Then kinda flubbed the ending (ending shit ISN'T Damon "Create-a-Mystery-Without-Any-Idea-How-to-Resove It" Lindelof's strong point).
But yeah, overall, pretty great.

05.23.24 | "House of the Dragon to me is hardcore trash and I can never understand the praise its received."
what about it seems like trash to you? i think the writing is pretty much on par with the first few seasons of game of thrones. the political intrigue is restored, characters are well written and well acted, villains are interesting. i've seen people say this show is in league with something like rings of power and i'm always confused by the ire. |
jrlikestodance
05.23.24 | Re: House of the Dragon, I find it very difficult to be invested in the story/characters of the show. The writing seems far more in line with the later seasons of GoT compared to the peak of the earlier ones. The show seems a lot more low stakes and it's difficult for me to care about anything going on. Not sure if that is due to the writing or lack of character development. I will say the last 3 episodes are the best of Season 1 but I should not have to watch 7 episodes of a show before it gets slightly interesting. I think my time with Game of Thrones related media is over after this show as it just comes off so bland to me |

05.23.24 | @gyro
Thatβs part of what makes leftovers so great. Leave the people wanting more instead of staying way past your welcome.
And on the Sopranos frontβ¦ that and Leftovers are literally neck and neck. If you asked me which was my favorite it would change on a day to day basis. Idk if youβve only seen the show once or something, but itβs true brilliance is revealed in subsequent viewings. Itβs just got so much going on and so many characters and plot threads that you can get a little lost in the sauce on first watch.
In a way, Sopranos is just mob Game of Thrones, but a lot better with an actual brilliant final season that is arguably its best |

05.23.24 | C-TIER
~ Rome
inexcusable |
Gyromania
05.23.24 | i'd probably liken sopranos more to something like breaking bad than game of thrones, just like... in how shots are framed, and how take these long wide angle close ups of the characters to let the viewers know what they're thinking/feeling. conversations are sometimes long and body language is so important. those are the things i really do like about the sopranos too, i just find the subject matter a little stale sometimes, and honestly it's a bit campy now with how bad fist fights and shit are. feel like i'm watching a play sometimes lol. not to diss on it, it's still great like i said, just perplexed by its status for many as the goat.
i'm happy the leftovers didn't embellish too many details and left audiences guessing, and i think that applies even to the finale. there's some uncertainty there (or at least there was for me) about whether it's all true or not. i'm sure a second rewatch would be beneficial, but i don't feel compelled to go back to it for a second time like i have other shows like bb). still a strong 8.5/10 for me, and yeah the acting is incredible. |

05.24.24 | a lot to discuss but @gyro in particular: I've oscillated drastically when it comes to The Sopranos in the past, and for some the same reasons you've articulated (I'm not attracted to / interested in the Mafia sub-genre, even a lot of the extolled classics - I've even gone back after The Sopranos clicked to some notable examples and if anything found them *more* tedious). betraying my age embarrassingly but I watched the last three seasons, or Seasons 5, 6a and 6b, the latter two of which were shown & marketed as different seasons in NZ, during their air run, as appointment television with my Mum (unusual, because she abhorred shows with sex and violence; she did insist on a tradition of talking about we'd seen the next day ("were there any scenes which upset you?" "what would you do if a friend said they were gay?" etc.), which I found """mortifying""" at the time) and loved it - like, seriously loved it. Then I rewatched it in my 20s and thought it was plodding, misogynistic, evidence that I had no interest in the Italian Mafia and - perhaps worst of all - fatalistic. Nihilism, and the preclusion of ideas of redemption, didn't thrill me like they did in my teens.
Then came a post-dissolution-of-relationship binge watch, where I shifted to the perspective of a fantastic show with moments of brilliance, but with flaws, followed by a slower rewatch - roughly an episode every day - and something clicked and I realised that, by god, it really is one of the best tv shows of all time. To that end I advise avoiding binging, despite temptation, because as a sedately-paced show it rewards sedately-paced watching - I picked up on more of the nuances, wasn't overwhelmed with complex plot points or the unremitting bleakness, and discovered that the show *doesn't* preclude things like redemption, love and forgiveness - it just provides a blueprint in how not to achieve them. It is seriously, seriously dark television, but with a kind of slowness and beauty and humour to it that's basically unmatched. i recommend giving it another shot x |
Winesburgohio
05.24.24 | i am surprised by the response to the SATC placing, which seems to me a totally uncontroversial assessment. it's pretty commonly cited as an example of golden-age television these days (as it should be!) and has retrospectively drawn higher and higher acclaim |
Sunnyvale
05.24.24 | I'm far from a TV expert and have seen very few of these, but man, watching The Wire (about a year ago) was an absolute experience. 'satc rules dont let these nerds get u down'
Soz for being a downer nerd, but "A-tier" for this show is hairy balls as far as I'm concerned. Hardly like a list like this, wouldn't provoke these kinds of reactions. |
