Wanted to put this out on my 35th birthday a couple weeks ago but in all honesty I’ve not been in the mood for anything fun. Weird how birthdays are the absolute best things as a kid but seem to come with waves of depression and anxiety as an adult. These are the albums that I think have meant the most to me in various different ways over my life.
1The Wildhearts
Earth vs. The Wildhearts

I saw these on top of the pops when I was about 6 years old and started dancing round the room playing air guitar apparently… haven’t looked back since, great rock band!
2The Vapors
Magnets

Dad used to play these amongst many others in the car all the time and this was one of my favourites
3Sum 41
All Killer No Filler

First cover I played with friends as a full band was Fat Lip
4blink-182
The Mark, Tom and Travis Show

First album I bought with my own money
5Papa Roach
Infest

Fell in love with the guitar tone on this and learned what drop D meant learning the singles and Dead Cell and thinking I was the tits
6Linkin Park
Hybrid Theory
7Slipknot
Slipknot

First album I listened to with proper harsh vocals on it
I thought this was the heaviest thing ever
8Megadeth
Rust in Peace

When I learned Holy Wars I thought I’d made it as a guitarist…
9Slayer
Reign in Blood

…but in truth my playing was more influenced by the dissonant riffing on this classic
10Funeral for a Friend
Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation

Saw Funeral on their Hours tour when Bullet For My Valentine supported them after they had only released their EP and the Four Words single
This was my first gig with friends. It was at the Astoria and it was beautiful
11Children of Bodom
Hatebreeder

Learning to play songs like Silent Night off this made me feel like a god
12Opeth
Ghost Reveries

The mix of death and folk here blew me away
13Cradle of Filth
Damnation and a Day

I’d never heard that huge overblown symphonic extreme metal sound and this is still as good as it gets for me
14Cryptopsy
None So Vile
15System of a Down
Steal This Album!
16Emperor
Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire...
17Between the Buried and Me
The Silent Circus
18Radiohead
In Rainbows
19Strapping Young Lad
Alien

First time I heard Hevy Devy wall of sound
20Coheed and Cambria
From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness
21The Bled
Pass the Flask
22Devin Townsend
Ocean Machine: Biomech
23Deftones
Saturday Night Wrist

I remember watching Deftones at download, absolutely wrecked, laying on my back looking at beautiful blue skies and just letting it wash over me
24Mastodon
Blood Mountain
25Casualties of Cool
Casualties of Cool

Beautiful album
26Arctic Monkeys
Humbug
27Agnes Obel
Aventine

Met my wife and she introduced me to Agnes Obel
28Queens of the Stone Age
...Like Clockwork
29Loathe (UK)
I Let It In And It Took Everything

Really helped get me through some tough times in the initial covid lockdowns
30Coaltar of the Deepers
Yukari Telepath
31clipping.
Visions of Bodies Being Burned

The album that finally helped me get into hip hop
32Failure
Fantastic Planet
33Massive Attack
Mezzanine

Opened my mind to so many different styles of music
34Kendrick Lamar
good kid, m.A.A.d city
35Lil Ugly Mane
Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern

But it could’ve been any of the three
