PitchforkArms: Anyone every released music on vinyl? Advice plz

Jots 07.10.23	it’s kind of a nightmare lately with so many big-label releases backlogging the primary vinyl manufacturers also, there isn’t really such a thing as a “short run” of vinyl anymore. like, for it to be financially viable, you probably have to commit to a relatively large order number even bigger indie labels are having a bit of trouble with this. if you’re gonna do it, then imo plan it far in advance and be willing to do a large order.
mkmusic1995 07.10.23	A local band here in Western Mass started working with a tiny indie label that managed to get 100 vinyls for the band but it took almost two years to actually get fullfilled so it is a total nightmare for smaller bands right now unfortunately. If you do get it done, I will also be in line to snag one :D
BAT 07.10.23	at the moment : one of the major lacquer plants burned down like 2020, they provided like 90%+ lacquer used for vinyls beforehand. with them gone there's just one plant thats backordered because of major releases like taylor swift albums being pressed in the hundred of thousands, taking priority over indie runs. sooo at the moment the trend seems to be for a smaller label to getting a pressing it takes over a year to get a test press done and then another year for the pressing to come in. most represses you see coming out now have been planned for a few years. i've been following the wax vessel record label[which does preorders of limited runs] and seems as of recent the wait times are starting to wind down. haven't heard any updates on the plant situation but the plan was for several new companies to prop up and alleviate the demand, still haven't heard of one tho. https://www.rollingstone.com/pro/news/vinyl-industry-apollo-masters-fire-951903/ sucks cuz last decade bandcamp offered a 'press by demand' system for indie artists, but eventually just became infeasible from a supply-chain standpoint. there are still small labels that get records pressed buut 2+ years seems to be about the standard press time.

insomniac15 07.11.23	Find offers like these random color vinyls which can come at a discount price since they're throwing random leftover material. https://www.gottagrooverecords.com/vinyl-colors/ this is what I found randomly in the US on Google, since I live in Europe. My band pressed 3 albums on an offer like this and some of the color variants were awesome. Plus, you might receive it sooner than standard options since they can clear warehouse space with an order like this. Hope it helps.
botb 07.11.23	I’ve never released anything physical without the help of a small label but putting together a EPK kit and sending it to a couple places is pretty easy

Jash 07.11.23	There’s a guy in my small town who funds releases bunch of local bands albums, both my brothers have had albums pressed with his help, I’ll get them to link me with him and find out where he gets them done.
