Sinternet 05.25.23	for reference, the uk has had one school shooting ever (dunblane in 96), and that swept in a huge wave of regulations and we've never had another one yet we've had occasional general mass shootings before, but after the infamous hungerford massacre in 1987 (which also led to a massive amount of gun control laws being brought in), we have had a grand total of three mass shootings killing over five people in the 35 years since its just sad, no one is surprised anymore about the stuff happening in the us because it happens so frequently it barely registers as news. gun nuts will make a big thing about 'rising mental health problems' (and then oppose background checks and regular reviews) as if that isn't also the case everywhere, without the same effects. while i get the argument that its a cultural issue, you can't stop that cultural issue without stopping guns in the first place, and until people stop opposing reforms this will continue to happen forever.

People in the US, especially in middle america and the south, go absolutely apoplectic at the idea of having their guns taken away. It can't really be explained, but it's a cultural norm that won't be disappearing anytime soon. I'm part of it too. My wife and I go to the range at least once a month.
