Neo-Soul, Nu-Jazz, Downtempo, Inst. Hip-Hop etc...

Nash1311 was asking about more stuff adjacent to the new Alfa Mist and Submotion Orchestra and I got way too fired up and decided to just make a list. Some stuff leaning more towards the rhythmic, jazz and hip-hop based sides of things like the former, some other stuff more in the downtempo inclined vein of Submotion Orchestra.

BOOKMARKED!

I like the stuff I've heard here, hopefully some of the rest should be in my wheelhouse
nash1311

05.06.23
Yes let’s go Demon. We all need to build a little pod of people that appreciate and discuss this stuff
PotsyTater

05.06.23
May the albums we spin light de way
nash1311

05.07.23
The lack of any more comments from anyone on this already both proves the issue and has me triggered
PotsyTater

05.07.23
I make a list like this about once a year and get about 4 comments lol
nash1311

05.07.23
Well then I can only blame myself
PotsyTater

05.07.23
It’s a really weird blindspots for the site considering the “pitchfork” variety neo-soul albums (childish gambino and Tyler the creators respective stabs at it come to mind) fare quite well
nash1311

05.07.23
I’d think jotw would help carry a torch or something since he likes the bleep bloop
Ryus

05.07.23
not as big on this kind of electronic as i used to be but still good stuff

2, 18, 20, 38 all still rule

Oooooo can’t wait to dive into this, Submotion’s set at Outlook fest was one of the best things I’ve seen. That Nick Hakim album is superb, as is the A/T/O/S, and that Flako record is an all time fav for beat music imo
PotsyTater

05.09.23
That Nick hakim was pretty much on constant rotation summer of I think 2018 for me. So great. Have you heard his new album? I keep trying to get into it but ngl it was a pretty big disappointment for me
Jash

05.09.23
Yeah I feel the same way
MiloRuggles

nash1311

05.13.23

PotsyTater

05.13.23
@ec uhh If you like hidden and cinematic orchestra you could try that portico quartet album first

@nash I mean you surely won’t like everything, Mayhaps I’ll make a sample track playlist to help guide
Ecnalzen

05.13.23
I shall report back with my findings

Unless no one cares

Well, I might just do it anyway, who's to say
PotsyTater

05.13.23
I care deeply
Ecnalzen

05.13.23
Well, good

Cuz I'm pre deep into this Portico 4piece thingy and I likes
PotsyTater

05.13.23
Steepless is so amaze
nash1311

05.13.23
@Pots in order for this thread to remain bumped and beefy, how bout every week you rec specifically 2-3 albums on here, I’ll listen and let you know what I dug, and that will give you guidance as to the next 2-3 to rec.

Does that work? We’re almost up to 40 comments let’s go
PotsyTater

05.14.23
Lol sure would be my pleasure. You could join ec on that Portico Quartet quest if you haven’t heard that, and then maybe a/t/o/s and S4U
Ecnalzen

05.14.23
I would also be into this

I am kinda bad at commenting on a list I think I would like a bunch of stuff on and then forgetting about it when the thread goes sleepy
cylinder

05.14.23
sweet list

Habits by tomppabeats and the singles comp by Dweeb are some great inst. hip-hop i've found recently
nash1311

06.04.23
