Highlights of 2023 (living list)

Not ranked.
1BrokenTeeth
How to Sink Slowly

Lovely shoegaze slowcore.
2Parannoul
After The Magic

Epic shoegaze beauty.
3Kali Malone
Does Spring Hide Its Joy

Inspiring drone masterpiece which comes in three versions. Listen to this like you would read a book until you are in this book!
4Big|Brave
nature morte

Their best record and what an intense listen!
5Scath Na Deithe
Virulent Providence

Atmospheric black death post metal masterpiece.
6Crawl
Damned

Creepy blackened dungeon drone.
7The Murder Capital
Gigi's Recovery

Matured alternative post punk album which is going deep.
8Shame (UK)
Food For Worms

Highly entertaining matured post punk allrounder with brilliant musicianship and easily their best record.
9Liturgy
93696

Music has to be considered as art. That is especially true for this album. It is the most ambitious one of Liturgy. You will be terribly annoyed with it or you will be able to get lost in the hypnotic sounds of this. And no, this is no black metal for ordinary black metal fans but a lot of the times it sounds like the freakest and most interesting version of it.

To Know The Light

Pretty damn good folky black metal. For this album the band added a technical aspect which to their music and it fits awesome. Sometimes for a few seconds you could think of Krallice or Liturgy.
11The HIRS Collective
We're Still Here

An album which should hold record in most collaborations. This turns the whole thing into a huge statement: this is a hardcore grind fest which you cannot resist.
12Ne Obliviscaris
Exul
13Lankum
False Lankum

This is the perfect folk drone record. All songs flow so well and a lot of the time there is this menacing drone background which creates such an exciting and unresistable atmosphere.

Umcheol (CĂș Chulainn agus Ferdiad)

Lovely ambient folk. Also nice cover artwork which you sadly can't see here.
