Shows through August's End

Just getting over a bout of that damn 'rona that started the weekend before last (which, half-a-star, would NOT recommend); it's already put the kibosh on no fewer than three prospective shows I had lined up this past week (sorry, Joyce Manor, Murder by Death, and Amigo the Devil), but hoping to be testing negative in time to kick things off tomorree.
1Jack White
Blunderbuss

Playing Pier Six Wednesday, 8/24 - Got dirt-cheap tickets for this (well, less than $30, which seems good for the act); honestly, ancient interviews with Stephen Colbert notwithstanding, I find Jack White as a person to be kind of unbearable--but would paradoxically love to watch him play live. If he's standoffish and keeps between-song banter to a minimum, welp, all the better. Call it the John Mayer effect (mostly to piss Jack off). That said, over 50% of the reason I'm going is for...
2Cautious Clay
Blood Type

Opening for Jack White. Meanwhile, unabashedly LOVE this guy. Debut LP might have been slightly underwhelming, but with EP's that strong leading up to it, almost feels inevitable that that's the case. Saw him play an unfortunately-abbreviated set at the All Things Go festival last year, which was plagued by sound and weather issues, so hoping those give my man a miss this go-round.
3Monolord
Rust

Playing Metro Gallery Thursday, 8/25 - An iffy one, not sure if I can swing a multi-night string of shows while I'm still somewhat on the mend. Still, seeing metal acts in this hole-in-the-wall venue is always a pretty gripping, intense experience, since you essentially have no choice other than being up-close-and-personal. We shall see.
4Pearl Jam
Ten Redux

Playing Ram's Head Live! Friday, 8/26 - So, uh, actually not Pearl Jam, but a band called "The Ten Band" who I guess just play the one album? I get it. My buddy mentioned seeing tickets for this on Groupon for $10, which we felt might be worth it just for the combo of low-stakes nostalgia and people-watching; *then* I got yet another, evidently different offer where you could get 1-4 tickets and just pay the flat processing fee of $5. So, uh, went for that, and won't feel bad if it doesn't end up panning out. Based on all the sales, seems like there'll be about fifteen people at this show. (Also, real talk, dunno why you'd get any fewer than 4 tickets using the deal I saw, but I'll leave that to the philosophers.)
5Pianos Become the Teeth
The Lack Long After

Playing Das Ottobar Saturday, 8/27 - Eagle-eyed followers of my lists may know I've been less-than-rosy on the new singles from this onetime stalwart act, and that's even as a raspy-voiced apologist for Wait for Love. That still holds true, but damn if I'm not excited to see my hometown heroes back in action for the first time in, what, nearly five years? And hey, who knows, maybe the non-single songs will be solid...or at least they'll play "I'll Be Damned."
6Caracara
Summer Megalith

Opening for Pianos - Truthfully, this also put some wind in my sails for seeing the show, despite my misgivings about the headliner's latest output. Very glad I randomly stumbled across "Better," hoping to snag that 7" at the show.
7Dosser
Brainscan

Also opening for Pianos. Not really on my radar, but seems like I have about one business week to rectify that.
8Hail the Sun
Elephantitis

Playing Ottobar Thursday, 9/1 (okay, so I bent the rules just a bit) - Performing this album + Secret Wars in full, saw these guy play with Kurt Travis last year and had a great time, even if I always feel kind of out of uniform and/or touch when I roll up to these shows not wearing black skinny jeans.
9Satyr
Locus

Opening for Hail the Sun - Another band not really on my radar, other than presuming they're probably decidedly Swancore.
10Coletta
Idealism

Also opening for HtS - Ditto. Bill also says "more TBD," but like...do there have to be haha
