| A Great Year for Metalcore

We Are the Romans
This might be my favourite metalcore album of all time, next to Converge’s Jane Doe or You Fail Me. The ending of “Man the Ramparts” is one of the heaviest things I’ve ever heard. But there is more to this then just heaviness. Songs that are chaotic, yet extremely catchy, everything flowing together incredibly well and vocals that get me pumped every time I play this record. Also, the ability to slow things down on the song “Swimming the Channel vs. Driving the Chunnel”, speaks volumes about the genius of this album. I just love it. | | 2 |  | Poison the Well
The Opposite of December
This right here, is the template for almost every modern metalcore band out there and still better done than pretty much 90% of them. I mean, the harsh verses and melodic chorus are mostly boring these days, but this record still works well. | | 3 |  | The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity
This album is just batshit insane, there is no other way I can put it. When I first heard it, I fucking hated it, but my curiosity got the better of me and kept going back to it, again and again. Liberate Te Ex Inferis
This album scares the fuck out of me. Bleak as all hell. Menacing would be a good word to describe it. They are able to convey a lot of emotion without being overly dramatic, rather heavy as fuck. | | 5 |  | Coalesce
0:12 Revolution in Just Listening
Honestly, this album is perfect for what it is. 20 minutes of aggression, technicality, and some of the rawest screaming you’ll ever here in metalcore. Still don’t get as much credit as they deserve. | | 6 |  | Hopesfall
The Frailty of Words
This may have been only just the beginning, but it’s one hell of an entrance and pretty underrated on here, I think. Furious metalcore, broken up by some nice ambient sections, helps set this record apart from others in the genre and path the way for another great Release in “The Satellite Year.” | |
