His voice basically ruins any chance of me enjoying the band's music, and his ridiculous and ham-fisted lyrics don't help either Also as far as 5 goes, you forgot to mention the fact that he basically took over the entire band on Mezmerize and Hypnotize, which is why those are my least favorite SOAD records. He pretty much overtook most of Serj's vocal and songwriting contributions at that point, which always rubbed me the wrong way
Demon of the Fall 07.21.22	Muse wouldn't exist without Bellamy though, no offence to the other guys but he kind of IS Muse - growing up that's the way it always seemed anyway. The other guys were just happy to contribute and be part of something, they let Bellamy have all the creative influence / control he wanted.

I'd never say he's a better vocalist than Serj, but I think he's a fine singer in his own right, and adds dimensions to the Mezmerize/Hypnotize albums (especially on terrific songs like "Radio/Video," "Lost in Hollywood," and "Hypnotize"). On the other hand, Lars I get (not sure I'd agree about him "ruining it," though I'd probably call him the weakest link in the group, if there was one). As for me -- Rob Halford in Judas Priest. Musically a pretty tight band (even if they're not for me outside of their influence on other bands, the aforementioned SOAD and Metallica included), but I'd rather listen to metal bands that aren't fronted by someone who sounds like a gopher inhaling helium.

Lars needs to become Metallica's studio guy. He could help James arrange the songs, and do the writing but leave the performances to someone else.

His voice kept me from becoming a Smashing Pumpkins fan when I first started getting into '90s rock when I was fourteen (and even back then, I did like the band musically). It was only upon hearing "1979" on the Grand Theft Auto IV soundtrack in 2008 that I started to turn around on them. Then I heard Siamese Dream not too much later and thoroughly loved it.

As you note, there are times where his voice can become part of the bigger picture of a song that helps it add up into a truly terrific listen ("Hummer," "Soma," "Mayonaise"), but there are definitely other times where he's just flat out grating (nowhere more so for me than on "Bullet with Butterfly Wings").

Most people don't realize that he's more than just the lead vocalist, he's also the lead guitarist, writes most of the songs almost entirely by himself, and had way more influence on their guitar direction than James Iha. Some rumors even say that he's the only bass player on Gish and Siamese Dream (outside of "Luna") and that D'Arcy Wretsky was just kinda there for live shows and backup vocals until Mellon Collie. Like it's fine if you don't like them, but taking Corgan out with just make The Smashing Pumpkins a great drumming band but otherwise unremarkable

BAT 07.24.22	@marskid michael keene still has a pretty dedicated fanbase and i would say his albums hold up. the revolving door of people has been a part of their legacy since their early years, hell the first faceless album has 3 different drummers on it. keene [and his exmembers] has always been upfront about his flaws but mann is the type to blame everybody else and say the critics are just jealous cause he can play guitar[whilst his exmembers claim he's got no dedication and only pumps out albums for an advance/doesn't actually learn any of the new songs]. keenes never propped himself up as some sort of genius and mann demands people respect his talent. i've also seen keene compared to chuck schuldiner. he's obviously not that legendary but i'd say both are the main draws of their bands regardless of how many talented members went thru the ranks. on the other hand i think all 3 represent difficulties with maintaining a touring lineup in a niche underground scene like death metal, it's hard to make a living off of and it's a lot of hard work/time investment. also the best thing about lars drumming: it's easy/fun to air drum too
