05.31.22 | I've reached out to a few guys that're good with speed in my area already and have lessons scheduled later on in the week. RIP my limbs |

05.31.22 | I wish you the best of luck. I was briefly in a death metal band with a drummer who had never used a double kick before, but it only took him like 2 weeks to pick it up and get semi-good at it. No shame in saying “I’m gonna practice this beat on my own time and we’ll try it again next week” |

05.31.22 | nice work dude, good luck! |

05.31.22 | That's exactly how I want it to end up for me! I've never tried my HARDEST at getting good at this type of stuff so it's a brand new challenge i'm getting into! Thanks for the well wishes! |

05.31.22 | If you don't think you're good enough to play atmospheric death metal you probably aren't tbh. Hell, even if you do think you're good enough you probably arent.
Atmospheric black metal is a whole different story though. |

05.31.22 | Yeah, when i think atmo dm i think Fallujah and Ulcerate first and foremost, and those guys are next level shit. They'd essentially be agreeing to do some different variation of death metal for me to be involved. |

05.31.22 | The cardinal rule: you can't play things fast if you can't play them slow. Forcing yourself and straining to play a rhythm at the proper tempo is just the illusion of progress. Scale down and slowly build up, and you'll suddenly be capable of your goals and then some |

05.31.22 | @YoYo that's what i've been trying with this one particular blast that pairs 32nd note singles with either right or left hand with 16th note double kicks, and i've been moving at an absolute snail's pace. it is excruciating to say the least. |

05.31.22 | "Scale down and slowly build up, and you'll suddenly be capable of your goals and then some"
I'm not sure I 100% agree with that. I think practicing at a slower rhythm is good for learning songs and building muscle memory and perfecting nuance in rhythmic articulation, but I think practicing at a higher tempo is sometimes more helpful for building the "speed muscles". Everyone is different obviously, but there are songs where I've actually benefited from practicing at higher tempos than the actual intended one. |

05.31.22 | I think it depends on the exercise. With the blast I just described I think I do have to take it slow simply because I can't play the beat whatsoever even at like 70 or 80bpm. |
YoYoMancuso
05.31.22 | i definitely think you should do both in a practice session |
SitarHero
05.31.22 | Yeah for sure start slow to learn the patterns and the articulation. But if you're struggling to ramp it up to the right tempo sometimes it helps to practice it at an even higher tempo even if it's sloppy and to try and get it tight as you can at that tempo before dropping it down to the proper tempo. |
pjquinones747
05.31.22 | That makes a lot of sense especially for the genre! I'm sure that'll come in handy when i start dealing with particular tempos and need to find good ways to practice in them. |

05.31.22 | Just play four on the floor for every song |

06.01.22 | Lol, not a terrible idea tbh. The world needs more ambient groove metal. |

06.01.22 | My two cents on fast vs slow:
I pick a tempo I think I am comfortable/capable of playing at and practice there. I adjust faster or slower until it is easiest. Then I play it slower then what was comfortable, then faster, then slower ect. Each time I try to play slower/faster then last time. If I start to struggle I increase/decrease bpm 10 bpm toward my starting tempo.
Quicker then you think you can play much faster and tighter then you thought.
I play guitar nor drums but I'd think the principle would work just as well for drums. |

06.01.22 | Great advice, 8genre! I'm already playing for two bands this summer so finding time between the rest to practice extreme metal chops is a challenge sometimes. Only got so much energy haha. |

06.02.22 | Damn I'm only in one band that doesn't meet often plus my solo work and I sometimes can't find the time. You must be a machine |

06.02.22 | Hah simply a man with too much time on his hands! Drumming and video games are my only serious hobbies besides seeing friends so it leaves me with a lot of time. Technically i have 3 bands right now and this would be #4 but one band is just one that i fill in for sometimes. |

06.02.22 | Must respectfully disagree about 7. NeO's drummer is very good but all he really does that's hard to copy is uninterrupted double pedal for that fast and long. Other than that, what he's doing isn't all that complex, especially compared to something like Ulcerate.
Good luck with the playing at any rate. I don't think it will be anything too fast by the sounds of it. Fast drumming is fucking hard indeed! |

06.02.22 | My experience as a drummer in a local DM band for 9 years is make sure you're the right fit and are comfortable with the material. If you try and overreach, it will show, especially in the studio. Brush up on your skills in those few weeks and try and ramp it up, but don't make yourself uncomfortable |
