| CD book binder
my brother died xmas eve. cleaning out his room made me realize what a down ass older brother he was. i found an absolute fuckton of pogs, his pair of old soaps, our old N64 and dreamcast, all kinds of baseball, basketball, and football cards, countless CD book binders or w/e.. all types of ephemera.
we had an 8 year age gap, so growing up dude was v influential on things that i thought were cool, esp music. here are some of the highlights i found flipping thru his CDs | 1 | | Dimmu Borgir Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
vivid memories of him grabbing + shaking my face while obnoxiously singing the cleans @ 4:30 | 2 | | The Black Dahlia Murder Nocturnal
one of my first concerts was summer slaughter '08 and i showed up in an element tee and plaid shorts. we kinda hung back cuz nerds were gettin wild, but i wanted to see TBDM up close cuz they were one of my fave bands, so he pushed our way to the very front "excuse me, sry, my lil bros first concert" and told me to hold onto the rail and he had his arms around me to block. ethereal moment | 3 | | Deftones Saturday Night Wrist
vivid memories of me missing my bus and having him take me to middle school in his clunker, blasting hole in the earth | 4 | | Bone Thugs-N-Harmony E 1999 Eternal
vivid memory of him picking me up from elementary school in my mom's ford aerostar. we'd drive over to his friends house playing buddah lovers and budsmokers only, and after sitting in the living room while they did things in the backroom, would come out and start practicing their c walk to various songs. "don't tell mom." | 5 | | Hot Boys Guerilla Warfare
we would use our favorite hot boyz rapper as the names for saved games. i liked lil wayne cuz he was the youngest, my middle brother sean liked juvenile, and kris had a thing for mannie fresh (i think it was weed related). | 6 | | C-Murder Life Or Death
no limit bout it bout it | 7 | | Lil Scrappy The King of Crunk & BME Present: Lil Scrappy
he was super stoked on this CD but came home to find out that he bought the chopped n screwed version of it. kek | 8 | | OutKast Big Boi and Dre Present...OutKast
all the OS rap i was introduced to was all while i was in elementary school. kris wanted to be a rapper, wore a gold chain, had 1 ear pierced. Outkast was one of my favorites because of Andre's smooth voice | 9 | | 8Ball and MJG On Top Of The World
this fuckn cover | 10 | | Tha Dogg Pound Dogg Food
growing up in socal, i was imprinted with a distain for NY hip hop which lasted until i was in high school | 11 | | St. Lunatics Free City
who else remembers NBA street vol 2 | 12 | | Westside Connection Bow Down
i'm bummed i couldn't find his "c walk" cd. so many absolute fucking bangers lmfao.
still one of the greatest rap groups | 13 | | Kurupt The Streetz iz a Mutha
ride wit us was on it for sure | 14 | | Through the Eyes of the Dead Bloodlust
i don't think he got into metal til we moved out of the city. he had a solid bro-phase for most of high school and years after. still listened to good tunes tho | 15 | | Job for a Cowboy Doom
i didn't like the bree bree cuz it scared me | 16 | | Death Symbolic
i think digging metal was partly an act of rebellion to our parents for moving us out into the sticks. he had a massive poster of this on his wall | 17 | | Into Eternity The Scattering of Ashes
my world of warcraft/limewire power metal days. thanks kris | 18 | | Dead To Fall The Phoenix Throne
this one was signed, wonder where he saw em | 19 | | As Blood Runs Black Allegiance
so was this one. weird. | 20 | | Rage Against The Machine Rage Against the Machine
we blew out one of the speakers in my mom's expedition to bombtrack. she was pissed | 21 | | Def Squad El Nino
some of these albums are just so unknown it's crazy. forgot how stocked record stores were. sam goody was the closest to us | 22 | | Dark Funeral The Secrets of the Black Arts
to see some of the albums hurt a lil cuz it's like "damn bro didn't know u fucked with" xyz | 23 | | 2Pac The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory
pac was what i most remember growing up. he started dating this one chick when i was in elementary school, and the 3 of us were going to legoland or some shit, and he always thought it was the funniest shit because i knew every verse to hail mary (yes, even the n words. times were different in the 90s) | 24 | | Deftones Ohms
i was gonna surprise him cuz i bought tickets to their tour with w/ Goijira in SF, and was gonna fly us out etc. etc. but they postponed the tour twice, so i never got to surprise him.
alcoholism and 2 years of a pandemic didn't mix. | |

03.12.22 | yes i am back. idk why i was banned in the first place, or unbanned in the second. yes i said i wasn't coming back, but i need(ed) a space where i can talk about music with like-minded people who i enjoyed after everything that has happened. | JKing92
03.12.22 | I'm very sorry to hear that about your brother, sounds like he was a really cool guy.
On a lighter note, I really like the range of artists he seemed to be into, I think that a lot of people are helped out with getting into music by those with wide tastes. I can point to myself as an example, actually: I got more and more into music through a friend in elementary school who gave me burned copies of albums by rappers like Eminem and Outkast (my father hated rap, but, above all, didn't want me listening to explicit music, hence why I got burned copies), but he was also really into a wide assortment of music, from Led Zeppelin to Michael Jackson to Nirvana to Busta Rhymes to Blink-182. This variety intrigued me, and while he could never convince me on a lot of pop punk like Sum 41, Simple Plan or Good Charlotte (though I am an ardent Green Day fan, admittedly), he still helped me discover a lot of music I may have never known existed, and for that I am forever grateful, since it helped me find stuff to listen to that wasn't just the classic rock my dad loved and the adult album alternative my mom loved.
Outside of my ramble, though, once again, I'm sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine what losing a sibling must be like. | Titan
03.12.22 | Really sorry to hear about your brother kev....celebrate him till the end my friend | kevbogz
03.12.22 | thanks boys
my parents were never restrictive with what we listened to growing up surprisingly. if anything, they helped cater to more eclectic tastes as my dad was hella into jazz and prog, and my mom was a 90s grunge bum who was femme-forward, like sade, garbage, and fiona apple (i even have a signed nirvana hoodie from her).
it's crazy looking back at how word-of-mouth dependent finding new music was. now if i like a band, spotify will tell me bands that sound the same lol | Keyblade
03.12.22 | ur brother sounds like he was cool as hell man, sorry for ur loss | Sunnyvale

03.12.22 | ty dudes. he was a super chill guy; real big heart, hella fuckin funny. a lot of my core memories growing up were him and i doing cool shit together, a lot of my firsts were with him.
he sorta turned into a boomer musically tho later in his life. not bad in any way, but boy did he fuck heavy with classic rock
@jotw ofc | deathofasalesman
03.12.22 | this was such a pleasant read, kev. its nice of you to share this with us and your bro sounds really cool. i'm very sorry for your loss | kevbogz
03.12.22 | thanks bro. i try to be as transparent as possible when it comes to traumas since they've been a big part in shaping who i am, and the past 6 years has been chalk full of it.
music has been a huge part of my life, and reconciling the two/drawing a connection between almost 30 kev and lil kev, and how my brother played a part in that is a good thing for the healing process i think.
plus i love u guys :) i wanna share some cool finds with yall :) | Avagantamos
03.12.22 | RIP legend | evilford

03.13.22 | I'm very sorry for your loss. The gap between my only sibling (sister) is 8 years also and much like you she had a massive influence on my musical taste especially when it comes to rap and giving me the gateway bands I had to discover extreme metal stuff. Forever grateful for that and all of the nights me and her would cruise blasting shit through her fancy subs and amplifier! My favorite memories cruising was bumping Thug Luv by Bone Thugs and Tupac with my little kid ass cocking my fake gun and shooting it to the beat lol. Glad to see you back on the sput! | Trifolium
03.13.22 | Lovely list kev, yet awful at the same time. My condolences. | chemicalmarriage
03.13.22 | I'm sorry man. I hope you are able to carry him with you as these years go on. I lost my bro about 5 years ago, I wish I could say it gets better. My best to you and your family. RIP | kevbogz
03.13.22 | i love u all.
@combussy thug luv is such a banger. sounds like we had some similar scenarios. unfort we grew apart as i got older, but i still have those memories which i'm thankful for.
@chemibussy ah so u get it man. i feel like my friends were super supportive the first couple weeks after he passed, now it's sorta back to the usual things except now i'm sorta just the dude whose brother just died. it's kinda fucked because everything is moving forward as it should, like i had 2 weeks to "mourn" and then boom back to school, but i'm just perma frozen | Drifter
03.13.22 | ayyy kev good to see you again. duuude your brother had siiickkkkk ass taste. sorry for your loss man mustve been a stand up dude | chemicalmarriage
03.13.22 | Yeah, people move on but the pain remains, finds ways to creep up when you thought it was gone. Holidays and birthdays are hard, will never be the same. Feel free to shoutbox me if you ever want to | JesperL
03.13.22 | really sorry for your loss kev. i hope you'll be able to somehow find the time to process/grief/feel without feeling like you have to move on according to other schedules/people/stupid fucking world
