PIGLET'S 2021

YOU HERD ME
20Skee Mask
Pool

3.9/5 gud bleepy bloops
19Portal
Avow

3.95/5 actually fucken terrible by portal standards. but portal is portal. Burbling, mechanical bee metal reversed through the 8th circle of hell (austraya) never sounds as good as when they do it
18Aorlhac
Pierres Brûlées

3.95/5 the vocalist just sounds like he’s getting drawn and quartered, in french of all languages. fooken brilliant
17Wolves in the Throne Room
Primordial Arcana

black metal/5
16Archspire
Bleed the Future

4/5 fucking amazing, ridiculous, disgusting etc. Its like a girl that gives you really gud head but who has no other redeeming qualities.
15Kanye West
Donda

4.01/5 fucken dumbest album ever. So many terrible songs. But im a simple man, i see silly kanye rapper man make music, i like silly kanye rapper man music.
14Krallice
Demonic Wealth

krallice/5
13Panopticon
...And Again into the Light

4.1/5 im a sucker for quiant bluegrassy bullshit being shoehorned in with sum black metal
12Helloween
Helloween

4.16/5 stupidly long, stupid vocals, just all around clownish helloween antics as per usual. Yet somehow it’s so consistent, melodically rich and fun
11Worm
Foreverglade

4.20/5 Bout time sum kunts started whacking out sum doom metal tempos to sum death metal antics m/ bit too muddy and homoegenous to elevate it into an upper echelon for me, but its just brilliant for what it is. the leads are fantastic
10Ad Nauseam
Imperative Imperceptible Impulse

4.26/5 originally thought this might’ve crossed a bridge too far in terms of density and dissonance. But the genius of this clicked the other day. Bends riffs like a true successor of Gorguts
9Vildhjarta
Måsstaden Under Vatten

4.32/5 djuns
8Iron Maiden
Senjutsu

4.38/5 it feels like this has no right being this high up the list being 88 minutes long and self indulgent as fuck. But fuck me do I love jamming this in the car. Hypnotic, smouldering tempos, understated leads, gud bass, great vocals. Gud motifs. They do it effortlessly and I'm still convinced this is up there with Brave New World as best modern maiden
7Kayo Dot
Moss Grew on the Swords and Plowshares Alike

4.4/5 so surreal and abstract, yet theres a thread of off-kilter gothic riffy structure that keeps this tethered noicely. Void in Virgo is incredible
6First Fragment
Gloire Eternelle

4.55/5 the only word that comes to mind is genius. And ridiculous. Just fucking incredible leads splurging all over this thing, and fantastic varied songwriting. Sonata is sex, the second half in general is pure cum
5Sunless
Ylem

4.6/5 ylem/ recall someone saying it’s just dissonant enough without just sounding like pots and pans and i big agree. The melodic tinges in the guitars, the production, the basswork, all is of a high calibre and treads that line of dissonance vs melody perfectly. Unlike a lot of records this year, it doesn’t overstay it’s welcum either
4Be'lakor
Coherence

4.65/5 For whatever reason its so underwhelming on the first listen, but the quiant riffage blossoms noicely once you sit with it. And you can tell these guys are such perfectionists, they boil their records down to their best motifs and riffs, and let them unfold in unmuddied compositions.
3Cradle of Filth
Existence Is Futile

4.69/5 when i saw this album sitting with a princely 4.1 average rating i almost got pissed off, like fuck am i really gonna be out here listening to CoF in 2021? Fuck yeh i am. Just such accomplished songwriting, layering, everything. What sets it apart from other metal is in how many catchy vocal hooks there are. Might even be their best record
2Every Time I Die
Radical

4.71/5 for all the apeish tempos this has, the pockets of climactic southern fried riffs and vocals colliding just elevates it into something so visceral. It hits like a freight train on the firrst couple listens. Also there’s this sense of perfectionism all over this record and it’s varied enough to not be a slog
1Esoctrilihum
Dy'th Requiem for the Serpent Telepath

4.9/5. fucken majesterial riffs and goblin vocals m/ i dont care wot anyone says this album, in terms of quality of melodies is head and shoulders above anything i’ve heard in a long time. find me better riffs than like that on Salhn, Agakuh or Hjh'at I’ll wait. You can’t fucking do it. Album is incredible and this guy has the potential to release the best metal ever made m/ m/ m/ /m//m
