11.15.21 | Props for the inclusion of Busta Rhymes. The man is often (rightfully) considered one of the finest rappers of all time, but rarely do his lyrics get their due. "Which motherfucker stole my flow? Eenie, meenie, miney, mo!" |
frigyourgenre
11.15.21 | Nice dude stoked to see big krit that high on the list |
rockarollacola
11.15.21 | Great picks, but you left out Blicky Sosa. You really need to check out his 2020 release "Blicky Season. Easily one of the greatest rap albums released in the past 15 years. |
Drifter
11.15.21 | bizzy bone |
ReefaJones
11.15.21 | no Ka or Roc Marciano? They would rap circles around most of the people on this list lmao |
LeddSledd
11.15.21 | i highly doubt there's that many hip-hop lyricists! |
Storm In A Teacup
11.15.21 | The blicky comment is a troll please don’t hurt your ears. |
Storm In A Teacup
11.15.21 | Phenomenal list. |
ReefaJones
11.15.21 | Also no Kool G Rap lmao actual shit list |
SlothcoreSam
11.16.21 | Nice inclusion of Sage.
You missing Seth Sentry though, an example of his great lyrics.

11.16.21 | @JKing92 Oh for sure, I'm really glad that you liked that inclusion. I definitely agree, I don't think many would argue that he's brilliantly unique but he's overlooked as a straight up lyricist for sure. He's definitely much more then someone with a fast and unorthodox flow, he absolutely belongs in a lyricists list of this size. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @frigyourgenre the list is alphabetical so he wouldn't actually be in The Top 20 for me, but in saying that he'd still be high and I love that you mentioned him because he's incredible for sure!. |
Storm In A Teacup
11.16.21 | Bun B is pretty fucking great glad he’s on here. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @rockarollacola Thank you. I'll have to look him up as I haven't heard of him.
|
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | #Drifter I've never thought of anyone from Bone Thugs as the best lyricists, also Freestyle Fellowship >>>. But I will look more into Bizzy's solo stuff somewhere down the line. |
Storm In A Teacup
11.16.21 | If this was overall and not just lyrics I would be arguing for Z-Ro to take a spot here. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @ReefaJones are you sure you've heard most of the rappers on this list?. I like Ka by the way, his lyrics paint vivid pictures and he's an impressive MC and defintiely a good Mafioso/Wu-Tang influenced concept rapper but I can't say I ever thought of him as an all time G.O.A.T. As for Roc Marciano I do admit that I need to hear a bit more from him but likewise he never seemed like Top 100 material but that could be my fault for not having heard him enough. As for Kool G Rap I'll admit to making the embarrassing mistake of forgetting to include him, I honestly don't know how I managed that as he's the greatest rapper to come out of the 80's and is Top 20 easily, it's a mistake that I've fixed and am shocked by. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @ LeddSledd Unfortunately after looking at your ratings it's clear that you're probably not even trolling and it's an absolute shame that you're narrow minded enough to the point that the only Hip Hop album you've even rated is It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. As great as that album is it's become generic to be one of the few Hip Hop albums that people that know next to nothing about the genre have heard. This might shock you but Chuck D is not lyrically better then anyone in this list and Hip Hop is concerned much more with straight lyricism then any other genre really, if you don't bother to dig deep you'll never know but a Top 250 Hip Hop lyricists list could be made if only I had more time on my hands, open your mind kid. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @Storm In A Teacup I'm glad to read this because I almost checked out that Blicky Sosa but listened to a couple of tracks first and he's easily as wack as a rapper could possibly be.
Also thanks so much, I'm glad you liked the list although looking back I'm annoyed at myself for forgetting to add G Rap although he's literally one of my favouries.
Yes Bun B is great, from UGK to solo stuff he 100% belongs here.
Oh I agree that Z-Ro would make a list of the best Hip Hop artists, what a talent! |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @SlothcoreSam Sage can be quite overlooked but he's one of those accomplished battle Rappers who is actually able to also make great music, plus lyrically not many actually come close to what he's able to do, The emotion he's able to convey as well as the technical and storytelling skills are second to none. Also as for Seth Sentry, that's an MC I've been meaning to get into for a long time and will need to finally explore, also I'll check that track out soon and let you know what I think. |
JeremiahBullfrog
11.16.21 | list is unforgivably missing Lloyd Banks |
Ryus
11.16.21 | ledd was joking btw |
Ryus
11.16.21 | 67 is my fave for my tastes. dont care about lyrics that much but i dig the more obtuse/abstract and weird free-association bars rather than struggle bars or convoluted rhyme schemes |
WeepingBanana
11.16.21 | Hate all the midwest crap but glad to see you got Bun B so high. His verse in Murder is the best verse of all time |
Storm In A Teacup
11.16.21 | I am not sure who my favorite story teller is on this list. It’s between K-Rino, Method Man, and Raekwon. I think what K-Rino has lyrically done might be the most entertaining. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @ JeremiahBullfrog It's probably my fault for not having heard his solo shit and based on your comment will make him one of the next MC's I explore. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @ Ryus Oh I feel like I was being a bit agressive now but yea I looked at his ratings and only saw one Hip Hop album rated so thought he might have literally been ignorant to the lyrical talent in the genre but I'm glad he was joking. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @ Ryus DOOM might be my personal favourite as well, it's between him and Slug. I really love those kinds of bars as well as many of my favourites could be considered abstract and unconventional but I also love convoluted rhyme schemes, struggle bars and conscious stuff, I'd say pretty much all those styles work for me in different mind sets but the kind of subject matter that I really can't get into is trap. For me I love beats but lyrics are big thing for me, I seem to focus on them above all else at times, even with other genres. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @WeepingBanana Theirs room for MC's from all states and many of the most skilled lyricists are from the Midwest, you might not like them but the talent there is incredible. Always great to see some Bun love though and yes that Murder verse is insane. |
Emim
11.16.21 | Nice to see K.A.A.N. get a shout out. Haven't cared much for his recent stuff, but his earlier work is great. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @Storm In A Teacup Great picks, I'm surprised you didn't include Ghostface since you mentioned Rae and Meth but yea The Wu are mostly great storytellers. As for K-Rino he's my choice for the greatest storyteller in Hip Hop for sure and even overall lyricist. The way that he managed to tell The Sorcerer's Saga across multiple albums is unmatached and like you said he is so entertaining and is just well rounded in general. |
GodLovesUgly
11.16.21 | @Emim Yes I'm so happy to see this comment as K.A.A.N. is overlooked even with some of the biggest Hip Hop heads. I also agree that his newer stuffer isn't as good as his earlier work which was consistently amazing, he literally just spits bars upon bars and never seems to run out of fire. |
WeepingBanana
11.16.21 | Lol woah forgot I reviewed 92 ages ago as part of the review a random album game thing. I remember literally nothing about that album but I feel like I wouldn’t like it so much now |
Hyperion1001
11.16.21 | pretty good list but DOOM at 67 is a travesty.
|
Hyperion1001
11.16.21 | unless this isnt actually ranked i cant tell
regardless most of these rule. |
deathofasalesman
11.16.21 | alphabetized ^
I feel like most of these guys owe a lot to Rakim |
Emim
11.16.21 | "he literally just spits bars upon bars and never seems to run out of fire."
His song "Bars" was one of my top tracks last year. That whole tape was super solid.
Kinda surprised you don't have Atmosphere on here, especially considering your username. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @WeepingBanana Sole definitely isn't for everyone but he's very lyrical and unique for sure. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @Hyperion1001 yea it's in alphabetical order. I can rank a Top 50 but when a list is this big it's hard not to do it alphabetically. DOOM is in my Top 10 by the way and I'm really glad you think most of these choices rule. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @Deathofasalesman yea most of these guys owe a lot to Rakim for sure as well as G Rap and Kane. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @Emim I need to hear that tape as the track was dope for sure.
Atmosphere is here at #91 just listed as Slug alphabetically. |
Drifter
11.17.21 | Definitely check Bizzy Bone's first 2 they're both super good. "Heaven'z Movie" and "The Gift." Musically really cool as well on both |
Emim
11.17.21 | Ah, got it. Must have blew right by him |
Hyperion1001
11.17.21 | man im an idiot that should have been readily apparent lmao
DOOM is my favorite but most of these I have a strong affinity for. i was really into the ditc stuff recently so 10, 65, and 73 are all fresh favorites. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @ Drifer I'll try and listen to them soon, I also plan to go back over a couple of Bone albums that I haven't heard in a while. I'll let you know what I think. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @ Emim it happens and for a second I had to double check to make sure I didn't leave Slug out lol. |
GodLovesUgly
11.17.21 | @ Hyperion1001 haha it's all good, a couple other comments also suggest that people didn't realise it was alphabetical.
DOOM is just so versatile and fun to listen to. Oh man all of D.I.T.C is so dope, It's awesome to see that your into them as I'm a fan of all of the artists from that group but it's just these three that really stand out the most lyrically to me. |
LightsOutGasia
11.29.21 | How is Masta Killa not on this list? |
Sinternet
11.29.21 | missing yeat smh |
Colton
11.29.21 | i feel like a lot of rappers, 90s rappers especially are very overrated lyrically and largely rely on corny rhyme schemes and puns while all saying the same exact thing |
Drifter
11.29.21 | colton shut the fuck up |
GodLovesUgly
12.01.21 | @ LightsOutGasia He was definitely considered, I also find him quite underrated but at the same time it's pretty crazy just how many great lyricists there are. I don't even know who I would be able to replace him with here. |
GodLovesUgly
12.01.21 | @ Sinternet I haven't heard yeat before, literally just looked him up to see if he was real. |
GodLovesUgly
12.01.21 | @ Colton what are some 90s rappers that fit this example for you? Literally asking because what most people agree is so great about 90s MCs is that they mainly stand out from each other as being uniquely their own in style and the most unique flows are generally found in the 90's. If you sounded to much like someone else at the time you were considered wack, it's more common with Mainstream rappers from the 2000s to be corny and say the exact same thing. I don't have this problem with many 90s rappers at all so I'm genuinely curious as to who you've heard and if you've heard enough, also if anyone in my list isn't dope enough to be here according to you name some of them. |
GodLovesUgly
12.01.21 | @ Drifter word, he's hopefully just talking shit lol. |
Dedes
12.01.21 | Good name bro
I've been meaning to jam Sadistik
I jammed a few tracks and was mesmerized by that's all thus far. |
GodLovesUgly
12.01.21 | @ Dedes Cheers bro
Oh Sadistik is so dope and his music can be quite addictive when your first getting into it, it can be described as quite hypnotic. Lyrically he's next-level and the production is so atmospheric and beautiful that his flows and the beats are a perfect marriage and I love how personal and introspective he manages to be. Also yea I feel you when you say your mesmerized by what you've heard as he absoultey has that affect, I might recommend starting with his Ep (The Art of Dying) as it served as a great introduction to me personally. Then basically any or all of his Eps and Lps are worth checking out, some are obviously much better then others but I wouldn't call any of them weak yet. |
Emim
12.01.21 | "i feel like a lot of rappers, 90s rappers especially are very overrated lyrically and largely rely on corny rhyme schemes and puns while all saying the same exact thing"
