The big surprise album of the year, for me, was the Lil Nas X album. Who knew that a rapper who seemed to be destined to be a novelty act only two years ago would come out with an album that is a genuine best of the year contender? He managed to do what fellow 2019 meme rappers like Famous Dex and Blueface could never do -- he got people to actually take him seriously. The fact that he's only released one full-length album and managed to achieve this is all the more stunning. |
