Nightwish Ranked

Probably five years out of style and old news, but I've never ranked them and feel by now that I have should.
1Nightwish
Once

The most complete offering by Nightwish imo, and it can still grind riffs out that rivals a peppercorn shaker. I love practically everything on here (yes, even Wish I Had An Angel has a high spot amongst these tracks) and have since the moment I listened to it in my highschool years.
2Nightwish
Oceanborn

A phenomenal encapsulation of the band and has the benefit of sounding classic with just the opening melodic riff of Stargazers, with every song being equivalently solid throughout.
3Nightwish
Century Child

This always seemed the most underrated amongst Nightwish discussion, but I'm sure it's another fan favorite for people out there. It's a very solid album and is sort of like a less eye-popping showcase of the band's strengths.
4Nightwish
End Of An Era

I just feel like I have to include it. I had the DVD when it came out, and while there's some pretty silly moments tied into some of the performances, I on more than one occasion was enthralled by the "evening with Nightwish" setting and settled in for some good justifiably epic concert going.
5Nightwish
Endless Forms Most Beautiful

I just heard this for the first time the other day, and I was substantially surprised. I think this is truly a strong record, and a legitimate successor to the combination of songwriting and musical sound of Once. I think the notion of "return to form" is applicable here, but regardless, the record stands on it's own merits as well and could even be a great introduction to the band itself.
6Nightwish
Angels Fall First

It's not exceptional, but it is pretty good. I'm not sure where the song Return to the Sea comes from, but it's associated with the album on the YouTube playlist and it's one of the stronger tracks along with Astral Romance, Tutankhamen, the T/T and the four part Lappi. The demo for the song Nightwish also would have benefitted from being included here. The fact that the band immediately went into progressing further into their metal territory after this allows for Angels Fall First to have a characteristic of its own by being sort of Nightwish-lite, even if the band isn't 100% in its stripped down incarnation.
7Nightwish
Wishmaster

I've never been able to get into this at all. Even on my relisten the other day, I basically checked out on track two... I have no idea why, but this even made me stop checking out Nightwish after the awesomeness of Once and overshadowed my liking of Oceanborn back in the day for a good long while.
8Nightwish
Imaginaerum

This and Dark Passion are basically equal in the sense that for me they hold an equal amount of flaws between them for mostly the same reasons in the songwriting. Imaginaerum gets the edge because of the larger scope and general cohesiveness in concept, but really I only like half of these records at best.
9Nightwish
Dark Passion Play

Every time, from the first note of singing, I get sort of put off. The higher, airy register of Annette right out the gate just doesn't seem to fit, and it feels like it's "really" trying to. There isn't anything here instrumentally or otherwise that is better than anything off Once, I don't think even a single section of a song. None of it sounds vital the way everything did on the prior album or from even any of the others before. It isn't horrible by any means, but to me this sort of is a good example of just missing the mark.
10Nightwish
HUMAN. :II: NATURE.

I don't really want to comment.
