12.05.08 | I really like 1,2, and 3. I personally would put 2 first. However, I am in the same boat as you in that Disturbed was the band that got me into metal also. I remember buying that album when I was a kid and I had to keep it hidden from my parents because I thought it was so evil.
I've come a long way since then... |

12.05.08 | thanks FutureHermit. This top five is really and mostly about the lyrics except for DWTS and Amor E Morte. When I first bought the Sickness and heard the ending to the title song I was just like wow. I would listen to it everyday but i would put in on low because of how brutal it is.

12.05.08 | broaden your horizons for realz |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | to marksellsuswallets: Look a little bit closer. If you noticed I picked most of them for lyrics. Like have you ever wondered what happens when you die? or have you ever felt like you dont belong? Well these songs explain that thats why I picked them. So actually think first before you put broaden your horizen for realz. |

12.05.08 | Honestly I used to love that song for the same reason...
There are just songs that have lyrics dealing with that same thing that are more poetic, not contrived, more sincere, and just better in general |

12.05.08 | how can you enjoy such HEAVY METAL bands such as these |
Yazz_Flute
12.05.08 | uh dude these aren;t exactly bands you want to listen to for amazing lyrics.
1 isn't all that brutal...it's aggressive sure but i wouldn't call it brutal.
2 is a great song at least. That's it really. |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | oh now I understand you marksellsuswallets. I just hate how people say pick better music without putting a valid reason. I like your response. As for mc: Disturbed-Hard Rock, Tool-Alternative Metal, Atreyu-Metalcore, Three Days Grace-Rock, Cradle of Filth-Gothic/Mainstream Metal. And for future referance I am a poet. check out my poems on my myspace if you dont believe me: www.myspace.com/metalcaynefortification. Read the blogs. One final thing I could care less if its metal or not. I just love the lyrics. |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | to bodominflames: I know that now. When I was younger I thought it was brutal. I picked these songs because the lyrics have a very personal meaning for me. Now my favorite bands in general are: Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, Job For A Cowboy, Tool, All That Remains, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, and Killswitch Engage. |
Yazz_Flute
12.05.08 | Those bands that you mentioned are really that brutal either tbh, but they're not that bad at least i'll give you that. ;)
II can get the lyrics having sentimental values for you, but i'm gonna be honest and say three Days Grace really don't write great lyrics, as well as Atreyu. I enjoy Tool lyrics but their not usually anything amazing.

12.05.08 | Most of those bands are pretty good, but I promise you if you stick around here for a while, read some reviews, read some comments, look at some lists, and ask around for some recommendations and such, you will find a lot more music to love. |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | well what bands would you guys recommend me listening to? To help you guys out I mostly try to listen to Metal music. |
Phantom
12.05.08 | The lyrics to 3 are so contrived and COF is just bad. |
marksellsuswallets
12.05.08 | First off, don't TRY to listen to certain things, that is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. I used to have that mindset for a while. Even in genres that you think couldn't possibly offer anything of worth (such as rap/hip-hop) there are a few gems to be found. As far as metal bands go, these are still metal but they offer a few different things than most metal bands. SikTh, Between The Buried And Me, Genghis Tron, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, Achitects...For bands that you would probably just enjoy from your list I guess check out things like Johnny Truant (they broke up recently), Deadlock, Death By Stereo, A Dozen Furies, 7 Angels 7 Plagues, possibly Arsonists Get All The Girls.
Those are just some things to get into some different types of metal, then after that if you want more just look around. There are some really great bands outside of metal obviously, so if you feel the urge just search around some other sections of the site and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
There, that was my good deed for the day haha. |

12.05.08 | You don't need to just listen to metal and rock. I was the same way a few years ago, but if you stay active with this site, your musical tastes should improve and widen impressively. I came to this site 2 years ago with my favorite bands being Incubus, system of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, and Children of Bodom. Now I listen to a little bit of verything (though metal does make up the most of it)
for starters, check out OLD In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and possibly Wintersun. That's where I started. From there you could start getting into better metal. |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | I have heard a lot of positive stuff on Between the Buried and Me I will definitly check them out. I heard an In Flames song Guitar Hero III and thought it was just sick as hell. Oh and before I got into metal I listened to rap and regular rock. I sometimes still listen to: Staind, Three Days Grace, Nickelback (I know they suck now but Side of a Bullet is still awesome), Breaking Benjamin, 3 Doors Down, Eminem, Tupac, Three Six, Immortal Technique, Nas, and although im atheist i listen to: Skillet, Red, Zao, Demon Hunter, Kutless, and Flyleaf.

12.05.08 | Zao is awesome...kudos...
Since you still listen to Zao may I suggest Botch, Converge, and Coalesce if you haven't checked them out yet... |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | I have heard of Converge though ive never heard there music. I will definitly check them out. Im atheist but for some reason Im still attracted to christian music. |
Yazz_Flute
12.05.08 | That In Flames song on GHIII is decent, but they have at least 50 better songs...really. |
Demonickid10259
12.05.08 | to bodominflames: Well could you please name some songs because they sound like a pretty decent band. |
Yazz_Flute
12.05.08 | Their old stuff way different than their new stuff. It's much more death metally, melodic death metal really...with lots of folk/acoustic passages. The Jester Race is their best album, but it might be best for you to start with Clayman. It was sort of their transitional album, it's more similar to their newer stuff, but stil has some of their elements of their oder albums. From there work your way backwords until you get to the Jester Race.
Check out "Only for the Weak" for the best song off of Clayman, it has a music video I think, so search on youtube. |
