parksungjoon
09.29.21 | based hiphop appreciator |
lz41

09.30.21 | @ JKing92 Thank you, really glad you like it and it's awesome that we have a shared admiration for a good amount of these! |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @ dedex Thank you!
Yes, for sure. Hip Hop at it's absolute best musically and lyrically and it's always great to come across fellow fans of those albums. |
Ryus
09.30.21 | just remembered how good 15 and 16 were this week. and fantastic damage, that one might be my fav of the three.
been listening to 59 nonstop recently too. best east coast album ever i think |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @rockarollacola, Nice! my Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde Cassette gets regular play! |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @ parksungjoon as stated in the description Hip Hop is the genre I'm most well versed in and I'm absolutely looking for more recommendations outside of it. |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @ lz41 Grace could very well be the most perfect album ever recorded, so could a few other albums but that one if just beautiful front to back. |
Typhoon24
09.30.21 | 16 is awesome true |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @ Ryus Yes Run The Jewels is awesome but Funcrusher Plus, The Cold Vein, Fantastic Damage, I'll Sleep When You're Dead and Cancer 4 Cure will always be my favourite albums from El-P, all are truly great. Fantastic Damage is a great choice for your favourite out of them, I even thought about adding it but it's been a while since I listened to it so I just wanted to include stuff that was much more fresh in my memory. Also The Infamous could be considered the best east coast album for sure, straight up perfection. |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @ Typhoon24 It's easily one of the albums I've listened to the most overall, just grips you from the get-go. |
Dewinged
09.30.21 | Great list, lots of classics. I see you have Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden... are you looking to explore further the wonders of heavy metal subgenres? Say black metal, death metal, etc? |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | @ Dewinged Thanks! Yea I've really just scratched the surface with Metal and it's actually the main genre that I'm looking to explore more from especially with the more experimental stuff so will definitely look into any recommendations. |
Dewinged
09.30.21 | It's an interesting and very vast universe to explore for sure. Darkthrone's A Blaze in the Northern Star or Transilvanian Hunger are good entry points for black metal in my opinion, as for death metal I'd let the experts here recommend cause even that sub-sub-genres and it's honestly a bit overwhelming.
This year I had a romance with Nightwish, which is sort of operistic, symphonic heavy metal, so i would rec you that one, maybe start with "Once". |
GodLovesUgly
09.30.21 | Yea all the research I've done on it brings so many different possible artists to check out that it's hard to know where to start and I definitely trust users on here as I've found so much great stuff from this site. Cheer's I'll listen to those Darkthrone albums hopefully soon, not a band I've heard of but that's good as I constantly want to come across stuff that's completely new to me. Nice I've got some Death Metal stuff lined up and I can see what you mean as when looking into it so many different artists from certain sub genres show up and it's hard to know where to go lol.
Nightwish also sounds extremely interesting and definitely something I'll check out, Cheer's for the recommendations. |
Assemblage
09.30.21 | Hm surprised there's no Rush! Good list though! |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | I do really love Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures though, if there was a Part ll they would be there for sure. Also thank you, glad you like it!

10.01.21 | >as stated in the description Hip Hop is the genre I'm most well versed in and I'm absolutely looking for more recommendations outside of it.
check n.o.d. |
Drifter
10.01.21 | that is high placement for black star. dont love it nearly as much as you but its surely a classic. awesome list |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | The only n.o.d. I know is this https://www.sputnikmusic.com/bands/N.O.D./48777/ which definitely isn't "outside of Hip Hop". I'm just tryna figure out if this is who you meant, if so I've heard it and it's dope or is there some other n.o.d.? |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | @Drifter it's in alphabetical order but I guess even if it wasn't Black Star would still place very high. Pretty surprised you don't think as highly of it, for me it's easily among the best of Hip Hop. Also thanks! |
Drifter
10.01.21 | oh! i read that when i first looked at the list but i forgot because im an idiot lmao. its a great album like a 4 for me. brown skin lady is one of the best songs ever tho such a great song |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | Actually come to think of it, having it at 8 would be extremely high if it wasn't alphabetical lol. A 4's still a fantastic rating, so i'm glad you still like it and yea Brown skin lady is amazing! |
Drifter
10.01.21 | Yeah I'm not a big east coast guy as it is so a 4 is especially good from me for that scene lol |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | lol fair enough. |
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | yea thats who i meant
outside hip hop hmm roni size & reprazent - new forms |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | Nice, n.o.d. is real good and I like the solo stuff I've heard from Tommy Wright lll but still need to hear quite a bit more. Oh a bit of drum and bass, I'll need to check that out for sure! |
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | ten wanted men is another overlooked tommy project i recommend |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | Awesome, I'll have to look in that. |
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | anyway i gotta reiterate this is a very based list
any genre in particular you want to explore? |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | Yea I'm looking to explore more Progressive Rock/Metal mostly as I've been listening to a lot of Metal lately but most of it is probably more of the most popular stuff, kinda trying to see how much I can get into some of the more experimental stuff that I haven't heard yet. |
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | for prog rock and adjacent:
the mothers of invention
soft machine - soft machine, third
caravan - first three albums
van der graaf generator - pawn hearts especially but all of the first 6 really
more psych than prog really:
hawkwind - first five albums
ozric tentacles - pungent effulgent, erpland, arborescence, ... (they have a lot of good ones really)
for prog metal:
fates warning - awaken the guardian (rly up until parallels tbh)
voivod - dimension hatross, nothingface
psychotic waltz - a social grace
atheist - unquestionable presence, elements
cynic - focus
|
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | hardly exhaustive really but you can always ask for more later [: |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | Thanks for that, I've definitely got a lot of listening to do. A brilliant amount of stuff that will be completely new to me which is what I've been looking for. |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | For sure, I'll let you know. I just had a look at your ratings and I admire how versatile your taste in music is. |
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | ive been around a long time but im still discovering and getting into all kinds of things i wouldnt have before [:
electronic i know a fair bit about at least relative to most on this site |
parksungjoon
10.01.21 | big advice id give to anyone is just take it easy, pace yourself, stay open
as long as your taste isnt hyperspecific you will never run out of interesting discoveries |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | For sure, no one can truly run out of different music to check out and it's especially great to be able to broaden our horizons on this site :)
Electronic is actually a genre I eventually need to further explore as well. |
protokute
10.01.21 | nice list, very interesting picks, man! |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | @ parksungjoon Yea I like that advice, definitely seems best not rush anything and just let new discoveries come along. |
GodLovesUgly
10.01.21 | @ protokute Thanks, really glad you like it man! |
Drifter
10.01.21 | new forms [2] hardddddddd |
Drifter
10.01.21 | Roni Size & Reprazent! So good |
GodLovesUgly
10.02.21 | Look forward to checking them out, I'll admit to not knowing much about Drum & Bass at all. |
