Storm In A Teacup
08.12.21 | we have a small taste of the decade already in music but not enough considering albums being postponed due to reality. Will we come to find out that Tyler, the Creator had not yet made his masterpiece as of this moment? |

JohnnyoftheWell
08.12.21 | more poppy |
Storm In A Teacup
08.12.21 | @inveigh m/ i wouldn't be surprised if we get some kind of nu-metal/mumble rap |

08.12.21 | All of the biggest advancements in music in the 2010s were in electronic music, so if anything new and shocking happens in music it'll be from that genre
Most of the other genres have been stuck in the "nostalgia throwback" loop for a while probably, or they did something new when fusing with electronic music or something...
TLDR: 2020s wil have cool new bleep bloops |
sonictheplumber
08.12.21 | all crap |

sonictheplumber
08.12.21 | osdm |
Inveigh
08.12.21 | Yeah in all seriousness that is the correct take. Especially in the mainstream, but probably in the independent /underground too. Blues/rock/metal based sounds don't really have anywhere else to go, outside of the throwback you mentioned, or the fusing of subgenres that were fusions themselves |
sonictheplumber
08.12.21 | rock is ded. |
Inveigh
08.12.21 | And if they do have new places to go, my old ass sure as shit won't see it coming, let alone like/understand it |

08.12.21 | Thrash, nu-metal and 80s synthwave coming back because nostalgia. No new genre, because also nostalgia. Math rock will die, death metal will turn to prog death pop, all BM will be defined by whatever Paysage does next and there will be a FLOOD of bedroom projects cause we're gonna be quarantined for the next 10 years.
By the time we get out, the planet would be a wasteland, people will eat their vynil collection and music will die, saved by some folks tapping on a rock with wooden sticks and calling it "back to the roots".
And that's all I can think of... I think. |
Storm In A Teacup
08.12.21 | "death metal will turn to prog death pop"
we all know we would love to see Rivers of Nihil top the charts |

08.12.21 | And only then will we truly ReturnToRock |

08.12.21 | "...music will die, saved by some folks tapping on a rock with wooden sticks and calling it "back to the roots"."
Finally, something to get excited about. |
JefferyBigglestein2
08.12.21 | it will be mid.
get ready for a new era of synth based electronic hip hop, and a pop punk/hip hop fusion as more artists start following the machine gun kelly formula. |
GhandhiLion
08.12.21 | It will probably be similar to the other decades. Most of the great artists will not be making genre music and barely anyone will hear about them or imitate them. New 'Genre scenes' are very unlikely because of this.
Also avant-garde metal music will be the most inventive corner of rock music if current trends continue.
I also expect a lot more new internet meme electronic genres that break into the mainstream. |
CottonSalad
08.12.21 | Metal and Memes in the 2020s sounds right. |

08.12.21 | "Math rock will die"
Creatively, it already seems close to dead imo. But just like thrash metal, I don't think it will literally die out.
also something something instrumental emo jazz

JefferyBigglestein2
08.12.21 | oh yeah rap artists are going to come up with more and more outlandish names for attention. get ready for more artists with names like "spotemgotem" or "pooh shiesty". it's better than the "lil" phase of 2017 i suppose. |
CottonSalad
08.12.21 | I would listen to “spotemgotem” (quotations necessary). |
ArsMoriendi
08.12.21 | "lmao ars didn't you listen to like 10 albums from the whole of the last decade"
According to RYM states it's 122 albums, which accounts for 12.6% all albums I've heard, so uh shut up |
