I don't listen to this as much as I once did, but I think I appreciate it more now than when I was a teenager. MCR hit the lotto with this one, and not just measly scratch-off either. The instrumental chemistry is electric, with the best parts obviously being the interplay between Frank Iero's punkier leanings and Ray Toros' more classic guitar hero style. Gerard obviously has a flair for the dramatic, but lyrics help establish the record as some kind of vaudeville-goth anthology record, which works surprisingly well with the music. | | 3 |  | How to Destroy Angels

I honestly don't remember too much about this EP anymore, but I used to listen to it quite a bit. "BBB" always stands out to me when I think about this record. The repetition is perfectly done and the song never feels like a chore to listen to. | | 4 |  | Firebird

As grateful as I am to have Carcass back, I could do with another Firebird record. It seemingly does not matter what genre you throw Bill Steer in, he will riff to anything. I generally tend to find throwback-y stuff to be pretty cringe and insincere, but there's a very palpable feeling of reverence for late 60's/early 70's blues-rock through this one that helps sell it. | | 5 |  | Burn In Silence
Angel Maker
Very underrated Massachusetts-based metalcore project. They incorporated more elements of death and black metal than most of their contemporaries but it was never at the expense of a good hook. They also employed the quasi-rare metalcore keyboardist which helped sell their Euro-inspired schtick. Definitely worth a listen. | | 6 |  | GHOSTEMANE

I'm clearly not big into rap and can admit I'm the stereotypical metalhead who probably only enjoys this due metal-adjacence. I like the sparsity of his arrangements quite a lot, they definitely help highlight his vocals. Some of the "voices" he uses are kind of cringe, but overall I enjoy what he does. A fitting fiance for Poppy. | |
