06.03.21 | Cool ranking. Ignore the trolls |
childatheart
06.03.21 | Thanks. This is just my honest opinion, so I'm not really too bothered about trolls in the first place, but seeing it called 'fucking awful' does hurt a bit, especially after what I said in the description.
I just delete negative comments though, no-one needs them. |
rockarollacola
06.03.21 | THANK YOU. A Momentary Lapse in Reason is my favorite too. |
Tundra
06.03.21 | this ranking is WILD!!! but respect for being true to what you actually think |
childatheart
06.03.21 | Meddle is last purely because of Seamus. I'm also not a big fan of WYWH's title track or Have a Cigar.
I think Ummagumma is a lot better than it's made out to be, as is Endless River (it gets so confusing when both of my favourite bands have 'Endless' albums. The Who's is Wire, Floyd is River) Division Bell and Endless River are two of, if not, the most beautiful albums I've ever heard.
Momentary Lapse has a lot of my favourite solos and my first memory of Floyd is my dad showing me the Delicate Sound of Thunder film. I love every song on that album and it would definitely be one of my desert island albums.
To put things into some context, everything down to and including Animals is a 5 for me. Meddle is still a 3-3.5.
And if you think this ranking is provocative, take a look at my ranking of The Who's albums. |

06.03.21 | well... ok then |
childatheart
06.03.21 | Yeah, I find Pillow of Winds to be pretty weak. And I only really find Echoes interesting. The outro of Fearless is alright as well, I guess. I find One of These Days kinda boring, tbh. The whole thing just feels like Echoes and 4 other songs.
Seamus is by far the worst Floyd song. Downright awful and it alone drags the album down quite a bit. |
Divaman
06.03.21 | Probably not how most people would see it, but hey, you like what you like. Certainly a great band to like, and agree w/you re/David Gilmour. |
JKing92
06.03.21 | Don't agree terribly much, but hey, to each their own. My personal top five would be Dark Side, The Wall, Animals, WYWH, and Meddle, but that's just me. |
Divaman
06.03.21 | Those are mine too, albeit in a different order: WYWH, Dark Side, The Wall, Animals and Meddle. |
childatheart
06.03.21 | Yeah, of course your top fives are the five most popular... must be boring agreeing with the popular opinions, huh?
But yeah. Each to their own, I guess.
And Meddle hasn't clicked with me after about 6 or 7 years of listening to it. I doubt it will. |
protokute
06.03.21 | Well... sometimes the popular opinions are popular for a reason |
childatheart
06.03.21 | Well... I tend to find myself disagreeing with the popular opinions. Some just make no sense to me, and some, no matter how many times I listen to an album, just don't feel right to me. Like the other's top fives I just criticised. Very generic opinions from them.
Two of those albums are literally my two least favourites. I don't think they belong in a top 5. I mean, in another list, I named Meddle as overrated, then edited that to Wish You Were Here after the last minute. But, they're still 3.0s for me.
Dark Side and The Wall do deserve to be top 5, but the other three they named... Animals is my number 8. It is a 5 for me, though. As the description says, fine margins.
I think my top 2 and number 4 are far better than Wish, Meddle and Animals though. |
childatheart
06.03.21 | And I accidentally deleted a comment I didn't mean to delete. I can't see any way to undo deleting comments, though.
Terribly sorry to whoever that was, I honestly did not mean to delete that. |
Divaman
06.03.21 | It depends. I'm the last person to just agree with the popular opinions for the sake of it. Floyd is one of the few bands where the popular opinion happens to agree with my own. |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.03.21 | *recs easy listening music*
well done for not circling this band's jerk the same way as every other user on this site. there are too many 5s. good band ig. fuck em. |
childatheart
06.03.21 | Just deleted two comments criticising Endless River. BS criticisms as well. I said in my first comment that I delete negative comments. I'm sticking to that. Negative comments are not tolerated here. |
GhandhiLion
06.03.21 | what about your seamus comment? |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I'm not going to delete my own opinions. |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I'm not a retard. And I'm 18, my username is irrelevant.
Your insult was unnecessary. |
Pheromone
06.04.21 | i am confused about whether this is a troll or not
oh god
7 comments in a row leans one way though |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I'm not a troll. I share only honest opinions. And I deleted the comments these were in reply to because they were negative. |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.04.21 | who got deleted
"I'm not a retard. And I'm 18, my username is irrelevant."
are we playing 2 truths and a lie now |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I'm not being toxic. Others were being quite negative and I dealt with it in my own way. By deleting their comments because they were being negative.
And we're not playing any games. |
rabidfish
06.04.21 | how can you not like wish you were as a song and also think there aren't any bad songs in ummagumma. |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I mean, despite it being my least favourite on the album, I do somewhat like WYWH as a song, but it feels quite weak to me. It's Floyd's most overrated song IMO.
I like all the songs on Ummagumma, simple as that. |
Ryus
06.04.21 | yea wish you were here is not a good song
im listening to ummagumma for the first time and its p good but gotta say i like the first side more so far |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.04.21 | did you just delete my comment citing a well-acknowledged proverb about the cyclical nature of evil?
because if so this list is fucking toast. make your excuses quicksharp please. |
Ryus
06.04.21 | ^dont anger this man he is staff |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I misunderstood what you were trying to say with it. I thought you were saying I was the cause...
And my list isn't toast because of one deleted comment. |
rabidfish
06.04.21 | listen to more true improv/Electroacoustic Improvisation music, please. It's really good. If you like Ummagumma. There's lots of amazing artists out there that PF surely took inspiration from. Broaden your tiny 18 yo horizons.
|
JohnnyoftheWell
06.04.21 | what if it doesn't matter if you are the cause
or the reaction
bc all toxicity is bad
悪因悪果 stay woke there is a lot to go around |
childatheart
06.04.21 | My horizons aren't tiny. I listen to obscure bands such as Gandalf's Fist and Kronos. I've been really getting into NWOBHM lately. Bands like Blitzkrieg, Saxon and Tygers of Pan Tang are quite good.
And to Johnny: I... didn't realise you were staff. And that's quite the thought provoking comment there. It's all just a cycle where we're both cause *and* effect/reaction.
The only toxicity that isn't bad is the SOAD album.

06.04.21 | If anyone was on the fence about whether or not this is a troll, check out his iron maiden ratings |
childatheart
06.04.21 | My ratings are honest opinions. Honest opinions =/= troll.
I really don't like their debut, or Number, or Piece of Mind, or Powerslave, or Somewhere or Seventh. I do really love everything else they've done.
Again, Honest opinions =/= troll. |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.04.21 | if the internet has taught us even one thing, it's that trolling with honest opinions is based and viable this is what metacritic is for |
Gyromania
06.04.21 | Dude... You should write reviews. You can be the Armond White of music journalism |
Source
06.04.21 | is forbidden your fav sabbath record |
childatheart
06.04.21 | I've never actually been on metacritic and I honestly don't get how trolling with honest opinions would work. An honest opinion cannot be a troll in any way shape or form.
And nah, I just looked Armond White up and just from three or four tweets I heavily disagree with the guy.
I have considered writing reviews, but I'm not too confident in my writing skills and I'm not sure if track-by-tracks are generally accepted or not. |
childatheart
06.04.21 | No, I actually haven't listened to much Sabbath. I'm not a big fan of their self-titled debut though. I like most of Paranoid.
I've heard some of the Dio-era stuff, and it's alright. The albums I'm really interested in (Headless Cross, the Tony Martin albums) aren't on Spotify. At least Born Again is. I was surprised when I saw Ian Gillan did an album as Sabbath's singer. I quite like that album.
There's still like 20 more Sabbath records I haven't heard.
I haven't heard Forbidden yet, but I have heard bad things about it. Which means I'm probably going to love it and it won't sound at all bad to me. Same thing happened with Maiden's 90's albums, with Saxon's allegedly 'weaker' albums. Heck, even St Anger doesn't sound at all bad to me. |

06.04.21 | Interesting list. I respect it. |

06.05.21 | You did it upside down on purpose, right? |
childatheart
06.07.21 | It's not upside down. |
