Backing/Secondary vocals used at the right time

I'm looking for sung or spoken vocals that don't occupy a lot of space in the songs they inhabit, yet their presence make them a part of the song's inimitability. I'm excluding The Beatles, Beach Boys, R.E.M, The Byrds, Mamas & the Papas and Gimme Shelter because these bands have too many examples to list and I know them all. I'm also excluding hip hop because the backing vocalists are usually credited as features (or not, a good example being Public Enemy) in a song, and it's not quite what I'm looking for here. And for fuck's sake, no emo. Thank you.
