| Writing My First Review | 1 | | W.A.S.P. Inside the Electric Circus
Started writing my first review a few days ago and I'm wrapping it up now and putting the final touches on it. I've never wrote anything like a review on here before, and just wanted some pro-tips about formatting and structure. First things first, no, it will not be track by track. What are some pretty big pointers I should know in advance before posting? If I like the final draft, I'll probably end up posting it sometime tomorrow. | |

04.21.21 | And yeah, it's gonna be the album on the list. Wanted my first review to be something I liked, but still recognized the flaws with. Didn't wanna review something I just endlessly praised or endlessly shat on for a whole review. This way I can see where my strengths are in critiquing things as well as praising. | parksungjoon
04.21.21 | Get it out there and learn from feedback. "first" is arbitrary, save the perfectionism for when it counts | budgie
04.21.21 | that album rules!!!!!!!! | fogza
04.22.21 | I think that generally if it's a positive review, people will go easier on you. So if you didn't like the album, rewrite it your review as if you did. | Gnocchi
04.22.21 | Some good general pointers here. As far as format goes give bb code a look. Sput generally saves italics [i] for album titles. Take a read of some of the reviews on the site, particularly the contributing and staff reviews. You're not going to know you're own writing voice until you practice it. Good luck and welcome! | Dewinged
04.22.21 | Wasp rules, looking forward to that write up | SIMBOLIC

04.22.21 | lol jks
outside of a track by track, idk dont take it too seriously and reference meshuggah and you'll be staff in no time! | DadKungFu
04.22.21 | say "W.A.S.P. was basically the Meshuggah of the 80s" and you'll be golden
I'd say just be sure you can justify your opinions. Don't just say something's good or bad, but say why, drawing on whatever you know of the genre, the band's previous output and whatever else you find aesthetically pleasing/displeasing about it. Have fun writing, it's not a school assignment, even the best reviews might get a neg or two but it's just fake points on a dying music review site so no big.

04.22.21 | Also for the future, when you're choosing albums to review, usually better to pick a record that doesn't already have a review with the exact same rating you're about to give |
