Tundra 04.15.21	I also thought 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, & 10 were overrated until last couple years where I slowly started to appreciate each one by one. Tool for instance I think warrants a "understanding" video, as their music is very meticulous and intricately thought out, sure, you can listen to it at face value, but looking into the little details (such as the title track on Lateralus and it's correlation with the fibonacci sequence) gives you a greater appreciation for the music, and in some cases, may enhance the listening experience.

aydross121 04.15.21	The subconscious and the conscious are not 2 fully separate things. They are subtly connected and intertwined in a manner so complex we don't even grasp how it works. If you like music from an emotional/subconscious viewpoint, you are still very likely enjoying that music in a conscious/logical level.

Shemson 04.15.21	Most of these albums are classic ‘growers’ which take multiple listens to get into. There’s often a lot going on and a lot to take in and they’re the kind of albums where you suddenly catch a hidden guitar lead or synth or backing vocal on your tenth listen and are blown away you’ve never noticed it before but then you catch it every time from then onwards. I always think these albums are like coffee. An acquired taste gained from multiple attempts but now I can’t live without them, certainly that’s me on 1-5 and 7 though personally I prefer AEnima and Ghost Reveries

I also value transitional flow between songs and a unique and creative theme that can be derived from the album as a whole.

I think what you say is enjoying music on a conscious/logical level is a level of rationalization for music that clicks with you emotionally. But yeah, I agree it isn't a true/false, black or white situation. Enjoyment of art is super complicated.

Prancer 04.15.21	If you acknowledge that music is subjective then aren't you contradicting yourself when you say people shouldn't look at the enjoyment of music as a logical process? Like you, most of the music I like comes from the visceral enjoyment of it that resonates emotionally with me. However, the idea that all music or art should be immediately accessible is a bit narrow minded. There have been many albums that I didn't click with right away that grew on me over time and became favorites. That being said, I could never get into Tool either, and if you can't get into any of these artists that's ok too.

I wouldn't say that people should not think of enjoyment of music as a logical process, but to acknowledge it as reliant on exisiting biases which manifest in the unconcious. I do acknowledge that it is not right to demand art to be quickly accessible. I can't say I have a clear opinion in either way, as I'm conflicted because I'm not sure how much enjoyment comes from the consistent exposure TO a piece of music, which is a psychological phenomenon of itself. So no idea, I guess...
WalrusTusk 04.15.21	I haven't spent enough time with Either Opeth or Radiohead to have a strong enough opinion about them. QoTSA are hit or miss for me but that album is a ripper. If I were to choose one "classic" rock band that I just don't care for it would also be the Beatles. I get why they are famous, and I understand their impact on music, but I just don't care for their music.

I think it truly is a distinction between those that listen to music to identify themselves and between those who listen to music purely for entertainment and emotional purposes. Having said that, I do like two of Godspeed and tools albums that you didn’t list

Tool claim that they didn’t even mean to include the Fibonacci sequence in that song and it happened naturally/coincidently. So it is just a product of raw music expression and should have no influence on the impact of the song itself aside from it’s pretty cool that the Fibonacci sequence is interesting in that it naturally pops up so often

'iron maiden - seventh son of the seventh son' was one of those and it ended up in a box of junk before being negligently chrushed to pieces. however, i've never felt the need to post a 'hey i don't even like seventh son of the seventh son', i don't tend to think about the music i don't really care about. music i genuinely dislike gets more attention. and honestly everyones expresses themselves differently, i really don't give a fuck about 30 seconds to mars despite glowing recs/people playing me songs/etc. stilll i'm not mad at someone for trying to share something they love with me. i don't watch youtube to hear my inner thoughts/opinions.
