Some 2021 Faves as it stands....
I feel like Ive listened to LOADS of Music this year yet when I was trying to put a 'So Far' list I realised I was just filling this up for the sake of it. So...faves so far. A measly 15 and 2 December 202 cheats. Slacking but all solid. |
15 | | Moor Mother and Billy Woods Brass
Dec 2020 - Too late to make my end of year list. Booooo. Obviously as great as expected. Now set for that Armand Hammer with Alchemist record. Holy moly.

14 | | Ancient Oak (US) Ye Olde Wisdom
Dec 2020 - So there was a bunch of these tracks around the mid 2000s that became underground legend for people in these circles and someone stuck them together on youtube a while ago which I guess got Creative Juices to finally put it out on Digital at least. IDE, The mighty Jak Progresso and Alucard. Super Dark hip hop/Kinda horrorcore overtones, if you like that thing. If you know Jak at all you know what that entails haha So happy this is out.

13 | | O.R.K.O CLICK cr02
30 beats in 30 days from (I think) 30 VHS tapes with the likes of 'The Fifth Element/Candyman/Robocop' etc. If you dig beat tapes and such it's dope and fun.

12 | | Valdaudr Drapsdalen
Some proper raging Black metal from Norway with some cool af thrashy sections and good old school feel to it.

11 | | The Owl Odyssey One
This homie is mad prolific. Drone/dark ambient/Noise?metal he's put out TONS of stuff over the last 12 months on his bandcamp. This release though is Slow, atmospheric, droney, doom much in the vein of fellow brits Ommadon and Bismuth. Massive.

10 | | Wolvennest Temple
This will be a grower as always. Their blackened psych trips are always a journey and this is no different. Really underrated band. Best to turn everything off and soak in. Light a damn candle or something.

9 | | Turris Eburnea Turris Eburnea
4 Tracks from Gabriele Gramaglia of Cosmic Putrefaction/The Clearing Path and Nick from Krallice and everything you think that sounds like. It does.

8 | | Suffering Hour The Cyclic Reckoning
I absolutely love the sound they got on this album. I never really heard them before, Those lead guitar riffs and melodies are insanely catchy. Addictive, even. Killer songwriting.

7 | | DSKNT Vacuum γ-Noise Transition
The worst album title of the year award already won. Congrats guys. Intense and clever Portal-esque death metal on a label having a great year.

6 | | Otay:onii Ming Ming
The amazing Lane Shi from the utterly amazing Elizabeth Colour Wheel with her first record.
To quote Johnnys great review.
'These will inevitably draw lazy Björk comparisons from those who learnt (literally) everything they know about experimental pop from Homogenic,'
Guess what? From me! IT IS BJORKISH IN PLACES. SORRY. I don't know any better. Its stellar and it has so much happening as it unfolds. I'm sure it makes EOY lists. I was supposed to be watching ECW (not the wrestling) in a few weeks too. Gutted.

5 | | Sleepwalkers (JPN) Noč Na Krayu Sveta
Only one 12 minute track so far but my lord what a song. Nothing much sounds like these guys. Avant garde/Black metal/Noise ...whatever you wanna call it. I dunno. Its aways fresh. Its not for everyone I know but damn. I cant wait to hear the other half. Pushing the envelope.

4 | | Aberration Aberration
Tremendous Mini album/EP on Sentient ruin again. Think its one of the dude from Void Rot which explains that atmosphere. That denseness. Only 14 mins long so can dive in, Get battered and get out with Minimal scarring.

3 | | Krallice Demonic Wealth
Consistently incredible band. Some of those sounds pretty bad production wise which given some of the studio access these have is incredible but hey... covid I guess. Still. its does as Krallice do. Always challenging themselves.

2 | | N + Ehnahre Jacob
Pushing 1 pretty damn close. I love Ehnarhre they remind of the heaviest Kayo Dot sections with hints of Khanate. Brought this German experimental drone guy in for a collab and it just kills. Also his name is Helmut. Which is amazing.

1 | | Ad Nauseam Imperative Imperceptible Impulse
No surprises. My fave record so far by a mile. Scratches all my off kilter, extreme metal itches. Utterly tremendous again. Gutted I missed that sext coloured vinyl though not gonna lie.
