01.01.21 | Agreed Brabiz. I think people are taken by their musicianship and overlook that the songs on this album just aren't that good. At least that's my take on it:/ |

01.01.21 | Undertow is too low and it is true that you commenters are too harsh on Lateralus. Lateralus has some bangers, grudge/parabola/schism/patient are all great, and a lot of people like ticks & leeches as well although I'm less high on that one. Reflection is super underrated, grows on you a lot.
I think aenima vs lateralus is a quality vs quantity thing, the couple best songs on aenima are hard to top but you have more good songs on lateralus. Take away all the nonsense filler/interlude songs on aenima and there's like 6-7 songs worth listening to on there. Great album but less of it, I'm cool w it being #1 on a list but I don't think it's so obviously better than Lateralus, I guess Sputnik as a whole would agree since Lateralus is rated .1 higher |

01.03.21 | I concur with Egarran. Tool essentially spawned their own genre of Alternative Metal, at which I worship at the alter of. All of these albums are individually distinct and superb - no ranking needed. |

01.03.21 | Damn straight JDubb. It's hard to overstate Aenima's influence. And not only on music. Many people resonated with the spirituality of it all.
And many people were repulsed by it. That's why Tool discussions are so amusing. |

Undertow is way underrated. There's this dark, brooding atmosphere to it (especially in the back end) that feels like there's a little bit of a Melvins influence buried in there somewhere.
Similarly, Opiate may not have the level of musicianship of their other albums, but it's raw and there's an energy to it that you don't really get from the longer tracks of the later albums.
10,000 Days was a huge disappointment. There are a few great tracks there surrounded by filler worse than the bloat added to Aenima. That, combined with Maynard getting further up his own ass and the time it took to release a new album, pretty much killed my interest in the band. By the time Fear Innoculum came around, I was just bored and feeling like I've heard all of this before. |
